mnapuran,

There is room in the wheel well to fit bigger wheels and tires than stock. With the wider wheel the offset is lower to move the wheels away from the brakes. Everything we list on our web site for wheels has been tested and we know will fit.
If I can help let me know.

I understand.. but that really doesn't answer the question of why Honda uses a larger offset, and those using them haven't had rubbing problems.

The real issue seems to be that most companies aren't making wheels with a similar offset, and the closest most DO make are 40mm or so. This doesn't make it fit right... it just makes it fit as close as it can given the wheel manufacturers limited options.

Jim, whats your thoughts on running a 195/45/16? This would be with a 16x7 wheel.

thanks!

I know this is a tire/wheel thread. But I got questions on both + springs. I have 16x7 w/ a 38mm offset. What springs and tires would work best without rubbing at all?

The best tire size would be 205/45R16. You should be fine with that wheel and tire combination. I would say the Eibach Pro Kit would be a nice set up. You would have about 1.5" front and 1.3" rear drop but you can still align the car and use the OE shocks.
If I can help let me know.

The K1-TS is 14X6 and 9.3 lbs. You can run a 185/60R14 or 195/60R14 on that car. You should not have any problems even with the car lowered.
The Enkei RPF1 is the lightest 15" I have at 15X7 and 9.5 lbs. The tire size would be 195/55R15 or 205/50R15.
If I can help just let me know.

I have read thro this thread, but it seems that there are a couple mixed opinion on what rubs....

I m looking at a set of

16 x 7 / 40 rims, so with 205/45/16 I shouldn't be rubbing right? what about after lowering, say with skunk2 springs?

what if I go down to 15 x 6.5 / 40 with 195/50/15? is that a pretty safe bet, or still might be rubbing?

The offset would be better in the low 40's for the most clearance. Try a tire size 205/45R16 for the most clearance. If you have a little rubbing you can always roll the fender lips or run a little more negative camber.
If I can help with the wheels and or tires let me know.

For you, 205/45-16 it's very close to stock height.
205/40-16 is also possible, fits rims 7-8" wide best. It's smaller than stock tire diameter for more clearance. Stiffer ride and more potential risk of rim damage from hitting potholes.

For 15 x 6.5 / 38 offset and 195/50/-15, that's fine. Even 15x7 +38 offset will work with 195/50-15

They are correct. The right size would be 205/45R16. They should fit with no problems. If I can help with the tires let me know.

I would ask your friend why he recommended that tire? How many tires as he tested on the car. What he looks for out of a tire. I don't carry the Toyo so I could not say one way or the other. I do have a number of options in the 16" for the car.
If I can help let me know.

it is because he is using Toyo on his xB, and he said it is from Japan...

IMO, I would choose Falken.
