hi jgrage,

I'm using 17" wheels, +43 offset, 7 wide and 215/40/17 tires... sad to say there's occasional rubbing at the back end. Maybe because I'm also using H&R springs with 1/5" drop. I've tried almost everything to get rid of the rubbing but alas, I have yet to find a real solution short of changing to skinnier tires.

Ken is using 195/55/15s on 40 offset 6.5 inch wide 15" rims, and he too is experiencing some rubbing. But it really just happens when you load the car with 3 or more people and if you approach a dip on the road with the passengers aboard.

I suppose in London you guys have flatter/smoother roads unlike us here in Manila, so that rubbing problem might not be as bad there.

Jgrage,

You have a lot of choices at it all depends on how big you want to go and how much you want spend! Like MYx said you can go with 15", 16" or 17" wheels you just have to watch the offsets and the tire width to ensure you don't have rubbing on the rear wheel well.

7 x 15" +34 offset wheels with 190/50R15 tires should not rub

7.5J/16" +35 offset wheels with 195/45R16 tires should also fit without rubbing, depending on offset you may be able to use a 205/45R16 tire.

7.5J/17" +35 offset wheels with 205/40R17 tires should fit without rubbing if you want the big wheel look. I have seen a few fits with 18's but I don't know about rubbing issues with thoses sizes.

I hope this helps you guys out. MYx I think if you go to a 205/40R17 tire it should stop your rubbing even with 3 people in the back.

D

Dojo,

FOr sure rubbing would be eliminated with the 205/40s... but with the terrible road conditions here in the Philippines, it wouldn't be practical. Heck, having 17s by itself wouldn't be practical here

But for sure there in the States or the UK, it wouldn't be too much of a hassle.

Here in the Philippines, we recommend 16" wheels to those who want to plus size. In our road conditions, this is the best compromise between practicality and form, espcially when we drop the car down.

What's the offset of the Fit "Stock" alloy wheels in both 1.3(14") and 1.5(15") models? I'm assuming it's like their big brother Civic which is 45mm. I could be wrong.

With your current setup, you have an overall tire/wheel diameter of 22.96 inches. Width of a wheel if doing a upgrade over 14's is all depended on the offset. I always use this rule of thumb when going to a bigger wheel size, for every .5" width upgrade from stock wheel dimensions, take (-)2 or (-) 3 mm for offset. As for tires in upgrade size, stay within plus/minus .2 inches of your overall stock tire/wheel diameter.

Once I know what the stock offsets, wheel sizes and tire sizes coming from the factory(all models), I'll put up some recommend wheel and tire sizes suitable for use.

jgrage,

Try this page. It has an excellent explanation on offset

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/...jsp?techid=101

The offset of a wheel is the distance from its hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel. The offset can be one of three types.

Zero Offset

The hub mounting surface is even with the centerline of the wheel.

Positive

The hub mounting surface is toward the front or wheel side of the wheel. Positive offset wheels are generally found on front wheel drive cars and newer rear drive cars.

Negative

The hub mounting surface is toward the back or brake side of the wheels centerline. "Deep dish" wheels are typically a negative offset.

If the offset of the wheel is not correct for the car, the handling can be adversely affected. When the width of the wheel changes, the offset also changes numerically. If the offset were to stay the same while you added width, the additional width would be split evenly between the inside and outside. For most cars, this won't work correctly. We have test fitted thousands of different vehicles for proper fitment. Our extensive database allows our sales staff to offer you the perfect fit for your vehicle.

14" Steelies, 14" Alloys and 15" Alloys
