I just got a set of Rota RB's in 16x7 with a 40mm offset for the Fit and am trying to pick tires for it. I'm looking for a summer tire for blasting through the mountains. Don't care much about mileage out of them. Just want something sticky in a 205/45-16. Had Falken Azenis on my specV and loved them, but they don't make them in this size. Looking for people with experience with either of these tires...
Should I go with the Potenza RE01R or the Toyo T1R or something else?
Thanks for all the responses. I'm still debating between the two. I can get the Toyo's for about $40 less per tire so the RE01R's would have to be quite a bit better.

in the redline time attack series, street class cars are limited to a wear rating of 140. the RE01R, especially last year, was the tire of choice for a clear majority of the street class cars that were successful.
also, they are wonderfully quiet and smooth riding and grip even better than advan a046 (and those are pretty dang good non-R compound tires).
spend the extra 160, i think you'll be happier in the long run. i think that you should really be looking into toyo RA1's as they may be very close in price to the RE01R's for the size you're looking for. and if they are similar in price, the RA1 is the way to go for what you want to do.
another tire to consider in the same class as the 01R would be the dunlop direzza Z1. they are actually being replaced with the star Z1 which are supposed to be the same tire that just gets to operating temp quicker. the direzza is also less expensive than the RE01R.
From many upon many reviews and posts I have read on these tires, both are extremely good tires. Not to many reviews yet on the Toyos, but The Bridgestones are considered the best tire out there as of now. Also for your information I also read an article comparing the Azenis 615 to the Potenza RE01R and the 205/45/16 Potenza are exactly the same dimensions as the Azenis 615 in 205/40/16. So you could actually run the 615 without running an actual smaller dimension. Go Azenis you will save yourself about $200 on the whole set of tires. And unless you plan on really hitting the track for some times, then I don't think it's really worth the extra.

The Azenis in a 205/40-16 has a diameter of 22.5" while the RE01R in 205/45-16 is 23.2". While it's only .7" I don't want to go down at all from stock. The gearing is short enough as is. If it were mostly a track car, I'd do it in a hearbeat.
The RE01R's are $150 from Tire Rack plus shipping and tax (they have a warehouse in GA) for a total of $690 ($172.50 per tire). It would cost me $8 per tire for mounting and balancing for a grand total of $722. I can get the T1R's at a local tire place for $130 per tire including tax and installation. So...
RE01R's - $722
T1R's - $520
I think I'll go with the T1R's and put $200 in the coilover budget. I'm sure the RE01R's are better, but I don't think they'd be $200 better on the street. No time clocks...just want to have fun.

Cannot go wrong with 86 dollars ea. online from the US. for the 205/40/16.
as for as the size and diameter difference it's only 2% and I don't think that 2nd, 3rd or 4th are too short. Don't look at the rpms look at how fast you go through those gears. Not fast at all.

That should be part of your decision, if money isnt an issue, then grab the RE's. If you want to save a few bucks go with the Toyo's. Maybe you can use the $160 you save on something else...

Those are probably a very good all season alternative, but I'm looking for a pure summer tire. We'll have the stock Bridgetone's on the 15's for winter plus a back up car.
My only complaint in general with the BFG's that I've owned is road noise. I've never owned their g-Force A/S though. I've had their old Radial TA's, Drag Radial TA's, G-Force Drag Radials, and, I think they were called, Radial T/A A/S. The one set of BFG all season tires I had were on my Taurus SHO and were excelent. Granted that was 15 years ago...whoo I'm old

Wow! Guess I should have been quicker. The RE01R's are now $161 per tire. I'm going to shop tomorrow and make a decision. The T1R's at $50 less per tire are tempting.
