I'm sorry, I don't understand what you are intending with the duct tape. Are you using duct tape to cover the hole that is missing caps? If thats the case we have done just that on many occasions without concern. The last ones, still hanging in our storage rack, have yellow happy faces.
If you are thinking of wrapping the hub center with duct tape to act as centering rings, thats a waste of time. Wheels don't really need centering rings because the wheel will tighten centering on the lugbolts and lugnut seats in the wheel regardless of the centering spacer. Torquing to 80 ftlb (sorry, don't have time to figure the Nm) will overcome ANY usual centering spacer. Centering rings (spacers) are for convenience only; to assist getting the lugnuts started.
