Pulling 1.0 g

Hey guys, I just want to see if anyone else believes that this car does have the capability to pull one g on stick street rubber. Both chassis gd and ge are ridiculously excellent. I know the spoon car pulled like 1.07, but that is not realistic as that is a race car. I totally want to build my street car into an amazing handling machine that will be an autocross/canyon terror. I know they dont make gobs of power, but with a great chassis it doesnt need any to be successful.

street tires meaning what? DOT or 140+ treadwear. hoosier a06 or kumho v710 you can... but real street tires no way. You could prob hit 1g or close with a stock fit with r comps. Its all about tires

i will agree for the most part. i have GPS based data acquisition in conjunction with accelerometers, and on a RE-01R tire'd car, getting over 1.3g peak. i haven't been on a skidpad per se, but if we consider >2 seconds at a time to be steady state cornering, then that particular car is capable of just over 1 lateral g!

and SHG brings up a very good point. "street tire" means a lot of things, just depends on who you ask. RE-01Rs fit into the street tire category in the redline time attack, Yokohama AO48 are DOT street legal, etc. lots of folks run RA1s as rain tires. where are you drawing the line when it comes to street tire?

guys, I was referring to very sticky street rubber like about 140 treadwear. I know these tires last for less than 10,000 miles and for that reason I am going to keep my stockies with something in the 200 to 280 treadwear rating. I just wanted to know if it would be doable on dot approved non r compound tires.

so, RE-01r / direzza star spec it is.
i'm gonna go with a tentative yes, but i won't guarantee a particular mod path that will get you there. i've had my eye on a set of the stance coilovers, since they will let you specify your spring rates (to a point) and they come with camber plates.

springrates that would be suitable to performance driving that aren't progressive and provisions to get some good negative camber up front (at least 2.5 degrees) should provide most of the hardware solution. personally, the cornerbalancing and alignment i think will get you your last .05g, and will be worth every penny.

how much tire are you going to run?

Hey, yeah guys thanks for the input. I would like to run 195's as I think they look absolutely terrific on these cars. If 205's must be needed we will see in the future. I plan on getting whatever setup has the ecu adjuster as the ge8 will be very difficult to get to to modify rates of compression rebound. I also will be taking the car to progess for the counterbalancing and full setup as they are the shit and are relatively local

i don't think that 195s will get you there, but the two tires listed will be significantly better than OEM for what you want to do. just a word of advice - if you're serious about suspension, don't get teins.

Yeah, I know about teins. The spring rates are way too low. But you could revalve them and get stiffer springs and I believe that would do the job, there are other manufactures who have the electric adjust as well.
