This happpend to me about a month ago when i was changing out my struts. just take the larger cv boot retaining ring out and slide the boot down and just play with it getting the cv joint back in the cup... i helping hand definitely makes it easier
thanks for the fast reply.
are you saying cut the cv clamp? if i do that, how will the three ball bearing look like? how does it look like when they are apart?
Just try it trust me. Have one person just turn the steering wheel back and forth all the way and i guess you would be wiggling the axle while pushing it in. Just move it around in different combinations and you'll get it. Put some muscle in it!
This happened to me, but only on the passenger side. I broke the factory clamp and slipped the cv boot off to see what I was working with. There are three bearings that have to line up exactly with the notches inside the axle. The bearings have to "push out" so to speak to fit in the notches and then it slides right back in. Make sure you repack with grease if you do end up pulling the boot off. There are special clamps to replace the clamp that you have to break. I got one from auto zone for 2.99. Make sure you don't use a hose clamp! Hope this helps!
f***! haha i succeed! i remove the clamp and align the tripod bearing into the mounting axle whatever you call it. but now i need a good clamp in order to tighten the boot neatly.

It feels good, doesn't it? Now get some grease and the clamp made for cv boots (at any parts store), and then repack the inside with grease and put on the new clamp.
haha i used zip tie with metal clamp. i also used zip tie because it hold on pretty tight and the metal clamp did not. i drove 2 miles came back and check the boot, no grease. =D
i would go to an auto parts store and get a clamp, because i used hose clamps, zip ties you name it on my old truck and blew um apart fairly quickly.. but you might need the sardine can tool to install the clamp properly..
