In my opinion, no. The bracing ties the top of the shock absorbers to the floor near the rear bumper. Any torsional loads in the unibody that affect the rear suspension will be the same if not worse at the back of the car. This won't stiffen the body/frame and it still ties to the rubber mounted shock studs.

Normally when one attempts to stiffen the suspension structure, the idea is to bring the seperate suspension components together into a single rigid structure so that they do not move relative to each other. Thats why full cages that tie into the suspension consoles at both ends of the car are so effective. Our cars are designed to do that already. The overhanging parts of the car that are outside that critical area are just extra weight, though they keep the rain out. If you look at full race cars, the structural frame only goes to the far corners of the suspension, everything beyond that is light struts to support the hollow body shells.

It really looks cool though.

You should stop and think about what the part is specifically trying to accomplish, and then evaluate whether the solution proposed can make a positive difference.

Eric

J's racing rear strut bar makes sound

Does it make noise for anyone when you hit bumps? Like a tinking sound. I had a mechanic friend install it so maybe thats normal. Probably just road noise being channeled in the bar itself as there isn't anything loose on the bar itself.

Any ideas?

thanks

I had the same issue. Any little rattle or squeek drives me crazy. I removed the end pieces and put a little grease between the factory washer and the rubber mounts. Then I put a nylon washer and more grease between the factory washer and the end mounts. Snug the factory bolts down until tight but don't overtighten. Then install rear bar between the mounts and secure in place with a little grease in the holes. I didn,t over tighten these aswell. my problem was sovled. I hope this helps

hm. so does the washer go above the strut bar and then nut or is it washer, strut bar, nut. Right now the bar is sitting on the metal washer and held on by the nut above the strut bar. I'm thinking maybe metal on metal is making me hear it vs rubber stopper on metal.

The instructions were in japanese and had 2 tiny pictures that describe nothing.

Put the nylon washes between the metal washer and the strut bar. Add a little grease to eliminate friction when it's tightened down.

We put it on the rubber stopper and the nut on top for the meantime, it eliminated the sound issue, but im going to take your advise and get some nylon washers for it and try that instead.

Until i learn japanese, that will have to do.

thanks

More likely, it's just your shocks moving around in their rubber mounts. The shocks are the only things that the bar touches or effects, and they're mounted in rubber at both ends.

DME strut braces from NonStopTuning

I did a little bit of searching and didn't find this. Has anyone around here tried the DME strut braces?

I saw these on ebay this morning:
eBay Motors: NST 06-07 Honda FIT -FRONT- Strut Brace / Bar by DME (item 110143774915 end time Jul-07-07 18:18:31 PDT)

So, has anyone tried these yet? Any thoughts?

FitVing is an unknown quantity at this point
Damn those braces look damn nice, Non Stop Tuning makes top notch products. I've got their pulleys on my tC and they kick arse, great quality. They're highly respected in the Toyota/Scion community. Really hope they make some pulleys for the Fit b/c I'd be all over those for sure.
