Sorry, folks but gas prices are precisely where they are because crude is selling at $120+ a 42 gal barrel. Gas prices are the result of 4 things: raw material (crude), processing (refining), distribution (trucking asnd pipelines), and taxes (state and federal).
You only get 22 gal or so of gas from every barrel (the rest to petrochemicals for plastics, and a lot more, including diesel fuel, which costs more thanks to extra refining to get Sulfur out - thank the environmentalists again). so gasoline has to support a lot ,but not all, of that $120 a barrel cost. And note that crude selling for $120 a barrel in Saudi Arabia means Texas crude sells for just as much here. And refining costs haven't changed beyond cost of living in a decade.
Why is crude selling for such high prices? China and India are ramping up their vehicle sales as more and more of their citizens with good jobs taken from America (bought anything recently not made in China?) so their need for crude grows dramatically. When demand exceeds supply prices always rise. Shortly 130 auto companies in China will be selling 30 MM cars a year, twice what we do. So don't expect gas prices to fall much anytime soon, tax holidays or not.
Don't look for gas to go down much in the future. Supply cannot catch up with demand for several years. It's there but we can't get it out of the ground.
Guard well your Fit.
PS part of the problem is also we have more than a hundred 'recipes' for gasoline required in the various areas of the USA. Drives refiners up a wall.
Here's a good ending: if Hillary is elected Muslim OPEC will raise prices so gas will be over $6 a gallon.
And thank all those politicians who sent all those jobs to China and India so they could buy more cars - that need gas. But don't woory about them. Taxes to pay them aren't going down anytime soon. cheers.

$3.69 here... i saw a guy pull up in his truck (F-350) and he maxed out the pump... it cut off on him and he wasnt done filling his truck. He had to put the nozzle back on the pump, redo his credit card and start pumping again like he just pulled up. He said it happens all the time cause the pumps only go up to a certain dollar figure... I dont recall the number but it was BIG! plus, he wasnt done pumping!
