I have always taken my cars to Carnett's Car Wash and Auto Detail. The thought of something getting ripped off the FIT or possible damage as a result - turns my stomach. So, I have been contemplating hand washing the Fit myself. Did I write that?..MMMh.

Anyway, I guess the 2 options are hand wash totally or take the Fit to a do-it-yourself car wash "bay" and high preasure wash with a brush tool? I welcome any and all opinions on this! I want to take good care of the Fit and plan on keeping it for at least 6 years.

Fit to be washed?...not quite yet, though soon!

Hand only!!! I only wash my dog at the car wash (brushless of course).:D

For me it depends on the season. Hand wash in the spring, summer and fall. I have to use the automated during winter...touchless though. The hose freezes up quick. I hate winter! :mad:

never use a brush tool on your paint. maybe on your wheels, but not the painted surfaces. it can scratch it. do no use a sponge either, sponges can hold dirt in them and scratch the paint. i only use the softest wash mits i can find and rinse them out very well after i wash my car so it's good and clean for the next wash.

as others have already said, i handwash my dd's every sat or sun morning
and use the touchless jet wash in the winter time.

winter does suck as far as corrosion. majority of your aftermarket bits will
rust quickly.

Thanks! Makes good sense. I didn't think about the sponge holding dirt and likely scratching the paint! Looks like a trip to Autozone is in my not to distant future.

I prefer handwash, but I live in an apartment with no access to a hose. Sometimes I'll bring my car to a semi-touchless wash. The prerinse and final rinse is machine, but in between there are people hand soaping/scrubbing the car. Then at the end there's somebody hand drying the car. I would never bring my car to one of those gas station car washes, or a local do it yourself wash (the foaming brushes are so dirty... it'll scratch up the paint).

I like to handwash, but I have to drive to my parents house and touchless jet car wash between them.

Do y'all dry your Fits with something after your rinse off at the do-it-yourself? I have to clean all the road grime off my brand-new (to me) baby and I wondered what everyone does to wash and dry.

I have in the past (other cars) just driven away after rinsing. Probably a bad idea, huh? I have used the brush but I always rinse it before using it and after using it. But I don't want to scratch my beautiful little Fit...

What's a good soap to use at home?

And, do any of you use those dry mitts to wipe off dust or is that also likely to cause scratches?

here is what i do:


1. rinse off car with hose
2. make a bucket of soapy water (lots of suds!) - any big name car soap will do, i use meguiar's
3. using a soft wash mit, scrub down the whole car (except for wheels and wheel wells)
4. rinse off car with hose
5. scrub down wheels and wheel wells with a different mit or a brush or sponge dedicated just to wheels
6. rinse off wheels with hose
7. use 'california water blade' and 'absorber' chamois to dry the car
8. terry towel the water spots off of the wheels
9. use a 'california duster' to keep the dust off between washes. use it regularly daily to keep the dust off, but do not use it if the car is too dirty, it will drag the dirt on the paint and scratch.
