Simple noob mods?

I've never owned a car that was worth modding, or have ever been interested in it. But with my Fit, I'm gonna own it a VERY loooooooong time, and want to get the most out of it. So now I'm considering what would be a good start for a noob to all of this. I'm not trying to make it some sort of speed demon racing machine, just something to make it more enjoyable to drive and make it perform better (for my own enjoyment, not for competition of any sort). Also, I wanna keep it all JDM so that's important to me, one of the reasons I bought a Fit. So with my limited knowledge of mods, here is what I was thinking, in no particular order.

Cold air intake
Upgraded shocks/suspension for handling
Performance rotors/brakes/etc
Aftermarket wheels/tires


So do I have the right idea? Import the parts, put em on and bam? Right? Also, trying not to void the warranty so I may end up waiting till it is expired before doing anything outside of wheels/tires/window tint.

You've got the right idea. U might consider throwing an exhuast into the mix.

Not a bad list. There are alot of companies out there that make great products and most are vendors here on the site. If you do some searching around you will be able to find many DIY (do it yourself) write ups and reviews of the products. Also with your list it all depends on how in depth you want to get cause there is all sorts of differences in each product group ie wheels could be regular 15's and then of course dif weights and offsets. Same applies to all the other products. If i may i would suggest window visors (if you like your windows down alot) and a center console with an arm rest. Not really performance mods but they make the ride a bit more pleasureable

Yea this is my first car thats actually worth modding as well. I have always been a stereo buff before now and thats all i have ever done but this one is different. haha. I little advice about the center console is to get on a list cause almost every place that has them is on back order if your interested in them. Im just waiting till they have them in stock and then ordering. If you need advice on anything there is alot of great people on the site that are willing to help. Good luck on your future mods

I actually have 2 fits. My 07 MR sport MT and i just bought a 08 NHBP sport AT for my wife yesterday. haha. I love my red but the black in person freshly cleaned was pretty nice imo. Its gonna be a pain to keep clean but no biggie. I wanted her to get silver but there wasnt one around and i didnt want to wait anymore. haha. She wanted black though so shes happy. I still like silver better tho.

The only advice I would recommend is do your homework before you buy. Ask lots of questions as we have a lot of great people on this forum that can help you out. Best thing to do is think about what you want first. If you want to stick to JDM parts, definitely keep AJ Racing in your head as they supply a lot of JDM parts for the Fit. You are definitely on the right track, and like everyone has said so far, add an exhaust in there as well. That was the first thing I did! And remember to save up your money and get what you really want, otherwise you will definitely regret any spontaneous decisions you've made

One of my main concerns, and this is a bit lame I guess, is that if I did any mods to it people would think I'm some sort of lame poser or something. That crowd around here totally sucks. I'm not venturing into that type of territory am I?

Off topic rant, there's this turd burglar in my complex who drives like a 2002 Ford Taurus with a fart pipe, R type floor mats and seat covers, window tint with bubbles, a HUSTLER decall in old english, some house speakers in the trunk and fake chrome spinner hubcaps. To say the least, I hate that guy.

For the fit, best bang for the buck and most noticable mods are CAI and springs or preferable coilovers if they are in your budget. Then a set of good tires.

Really just start with an intake, Brakes on the fit are plenty great for street use.

meh, i would start off with springs.

there is nothing more sweet then a dropped fit.

then rock a cold air intake, but if your in an area that has a lot of rain...then use a short ram intake. it will save you the worries and the troubles you might run into. but if you want the best of both worlds then a power chamber intake will be nice.

then for the beefier tone, rock a catback system. or even just an axle back will do.


those 3 combine you will be happy. i know i am happy.


that right there would only cost you around 6-8 hundred depending on what you buy.


i hated the stock tires, so yes better tires would help with the handling part. but you can run stock tires for awhile and still be happy.


my first parts are the fujita cold air, tein s.tech springs, and hks axleback and im more then happy with the results i got from just those 3 things. just to give an example of what i have.

oh and dont worry i know what the east coast is all about. and mid west, something about domestic cars get people all crazy.

even that, ugly kits, crazy wings and stuff is everywhere...but you know what its cool, as long as YOU like it then thats fine.

i think i would start off with somw wheels first. then would come the springs (skunk2). then i would tighten them all up with strut towers maybe some mugen or tanabe's.
then we move to the engine. cold air intake t1r/aem. to wrap in up i would do headers, then the entire exhaust.
you would have wheels,great stance, nice tone and some added ponies.

We have a bunch of "posers" around the midwest... People who put on bench spoilers on neons, and cut the exhaust off of alero's and such... the best thing to think about with mods if you don't want to go that route is quality... so what if a certain part is 100 dollars more, does it look sharper, cleaner, almost like it could have been stock? I say go for it. Look around on the forums before you buy anything... Almost any idea you come up with will probably have been done or talked about here. And being new to a modding scene, IMO, I would stay away from body kits, and hoods, and body work unless you know what your doing or have someone helping you.
I give tons of credit to anyone on these forums (like Illusive before this post) who has successfully done body work and not made it look ricy!!


I bought my fit and wanted to keep it clean, sound more power driven (but not LOUD), and make it unique to me. So I went with a axleback exhaust, intake, street header, springs, tint, and 16" rims. Have to say I love the set up and no one makes fun of it other then the fact that they don't like Micro-Van looking cars

Thanks for all the help guys. Now I have a better idea of where to start.

And here in the midwest, at least near STL we get tons of rain and flooding, so as suggested I'll probably forego the CAI for short ram intake. And as far as body kits, side skirts etc. I would tear that stuff up with all the deep pot holes and railroad tracks and gravel roads and stuff, so most the mods on mine would be things you can't see, besides wheels.

But I appreciate all the great advice.
