MP3 CDs...any tricks?

The wife got a new fit this week. This is good news and bad news. The good news is we have a great, fun, sporty little car with great MPG.

The bad news is that I inherit the minivan. ;o)

Anyways, this is the first car we've ever owned with MP3 CD support.

I've burned a couple of CD-Rs on my XP box and was sure to 'close CD' so it can be read on other systems.

Alas, these keep getting spit out of the Fit as 'BAD DISK'.

These disks are readable just fine on my MacBook and other computers in the house.

Am I missing something obvious to get these disks to work? Does the Fit stereo prefer some specific CD-R or CD-R format?

Which program did you use? I would recommend using Nero to burn the discs. It is one of the best burning programs out there. It is also readily available for download on torrent sites. Not that I would advocate that sort of thing.

Ya know, I'm not even sure. I just drag-to-disk and EJECT it to close it...umm...let's see...looks like Roxio.

Should the particular software matter? Seems a burned disk is a burned disk. I'll trying making one on my Mac later and see if that works any better.

ah! I guess that could be the issue. It's a data CD. I assume that's what an 'mp3 cd' meant. Is there such thing as a 'mp3 cd format'?

Well, Wikipedia seems to say that 'mp3 cd' is just a data cd with mp3 files:

MP3 CD is a term used to refer to compact discs (usually CD-R or CD-RW) that contain MP3 files. Discs are burned in data mode

Anyone know the manufacturer/model of the stock CD player? Maybe there's some picky thing about this model.

I use Nero.
Data CD setting, drag and drop, I don't have to finalize the CD either.
Burn using a CD-R

It works just like that.

You can trial test Nero here, there's a bunch of different versions.

Do you have the Base Fit or the Fit Sport? Only the sport has the MP3 CD playback. If you have the base Fit you can burn a mix cd using Media player built into Win XP.

If you have the base, nope...
Only the Sport has MP3 CD playback. It also supports WMA (Windows Media Audio)files.

To clarify, we have the fit sport, so yes, it has MP3 CD capabilities. I also want to burn an actual MP3 CD, rather than an audio CD (so iTunes doesn't seem to be a candidate).

As it's my wife's car, I haven't had a chance to get back in it yet, but will try and get Nero and see if that solves the issue. Thanks for all the tips!

I, like Chris, also use iTunes to burn my CDs, AND ITunes can be used to burn MP3 Cds. All you have to do is go into Edit at the top of the screen, chose preferences, select the "advance" tab, then select the "burning" tab, click on the MP3 option and then press ok... you'll now be able to burn MP3 CDs using your iTunes software.

This is the best and easiest way, any burning software you will have an option for
A) Music CD
B ) Data CD
--- To make an mp3 cd to work in the Fit choose Data, and you can just drag and drop music folders then burn it. Works as easy as that. You can PM me if you have any questions.

MP3 program for the Fit

I would highly recommend Ubuntu or Kubuntu Linux for ripping or burning CD or DVDs. K3B is an outstanding CD program that will let you make digital duplicates of CDs, etc. and even work with MP3 files.

Now if I only get a Fit Stereo what would work the AAC or OGG audio files...
