So I am about to be moving to a slightly sketchy area where the fit will live on the street all year round. I have the base so there is no factory alarm install. I tried using the AutoLock which locks up the clutch / brake, but it doesnt fit our car due to the pedals being so close to the floor. I have heard that the club is easily freon / broken.
I am looking for suggestions on relatively low cost (<100) items that will prevent my car from being driven away. There is nothing in it worth being stolen so I'm not worried about that. Also, I am not really interested in an alarm that just beeps, as I prob won't be within ear shot once im in my apartment...

You can invest in a flashing blue led to mimic higher end alarms. Aside from that you can also do fuel pump kill switches and things of that sort but it may be overkill for a base fit. I'd say a visible deterrent like a club should make someone think twice about stealing a base fit but who knows maybe that place is super sketchy
you can get a two way alarm on ebay for around 80-100 balloons
its an easy (relatively speaking) install and most will include shock sensors and or microwave sensors.
yes, its ebay, and yes the quality mightbe questionable, but so far with the few that i have bought for different cars have been satisfied.

I like the kill switch idea. where is the wiring located? I wont be driving it for several days on end so the kill switch wouldnt really be a hassle. any good hiding spot ideas? I was thinking under the dash somewhere, but i guess it depends on where the wiring is.
DO the CLub and kill switch. Cheap and it's a layers approach.
Thief will waste their time getting the Club off thinking it's the only
thing protecting the car. Then they can't start it due to the kill switch.
Now they have to figure out what else is protecting the car.
Time is a thief worst enemy.
Starter and ignition can be access around steering column.
I thought about doing this with my last car, but I never got around to it. A keypad starter kill. You have to enter your unlock code before you can start the car. I saw it on the Transporter and thought to myself, "Damn I gotta get one!"

There is an existing horn-honking alarm. And most stereo shops can install addons to existing security systems.
