Question locking gas cap?

Just got my new 08 Fit Sport 5 days ago. Saw a post a few ays ago from another new owner who says he got a Stant #11507 locking gas cap for $13 at local parts store. Saw a post from May 2006 saying Element locking cap part no. 17680-SAA-G00 works fine. Can anyone confirm if the Stant 11507 will work fine (no "check gas cap" warnings), or if the Element locking cap will work fine with 08 Fit? Trying to save a few $$ to spend where it really matters....

i got the stant locking gas cap and it works for me,i got it from kragen i think for $ 12 bucks,i took out the stock gas cap using a very thin screwdriver, the only thing is you cant have the stock tether(plastic connected to the gas cap) connected back to the stant locking gas cap,by the way no check gas cap warning either.

i hope this helps.

the cylinder is not installed in the cap so i took it apart and changed the tumblers (i work at the acura dealer and borrowed the set from our sister shop) but i rekeyed my element one at home by taking it apart, mixing and matching or filing down tumblers that stick out, its not that bad, cuz its not critical to have all of them in, i think i left out 1 of them

A warning about locking gas caps and re-keying--- if you keep the gas cap key on your key ring, as would be the case with using the ignition key to unlock the cap, it will be hard not to damage your paint with all of your keys rattling against your fender as you unlock the cap.

I wrapped Velcro around the head of the cap key, and keep it stuck to another sheet of Velcro between the left vertical side of the dash and the driver's door.

Darn, once again I fail to search this forum for less expensive alternatives

Was browsing the local wal-mart car section and saw the Stant locking gas cap as well for around 13 bucks. This thread seems to verify them working. Too bad I already purchased the 45 dollar locking gas cap online!

worth the security for Factory locking gas cap

Just wanted to do a short review of this factory locking cap..

It's a good investment if you don't want to worry about people putting crap into your gas tank. The key looks like the car key, but when I tested it with my car key it did not open the lock so I guess the locking cap key is unique locking gas cap works just as good as the OEM gas cap, and no warning lights have shown up for the past month that i've had it.

So I am happy with this purchase and glad I found it before I found the Stant one at Wal-mart because I would have definitely purchased the cheapy one because I am cheap And then I would have regretted not buying the Factory made one haha

The tether doesn't seem to fit the honda locking cap. I am wondering how you guys took it out? Did you just cut it? I can't figure out how to unbolt the screw on the gas lid.

The tether is easy to remove from the gas cap cover with an ice pick or other similar tool like a thin nail. It is attached to an anchor mounted on the gas cap cover by a simple pin that can be removed without damaging anything by pressing it up and out of the anchor from underneath. Locate the bottom of the pin under the anchor and simply press it up with the ice pick or nail. It comes out and you can save it, the tether, and the EOM gas cap incase you ever want to re-install the EOM cap and tether.

Thanks. I will give it a shot. I was a bit worry to do that as the gas lid doesn't provide much leverage with that plastic hinge. I was afraid to push too hard and make the gas lip hinge out of alignment.

I just pushed the lock tumbler into the gas cap, if you kinda match it up it'll fit right in, just need a bit of force.

Anyone in Canada get the Stant locking gas cap? If so, what store did you get it from?
