There is a JDM car that has the control module within the wiper stalk as that's how they're doing this mod in Japan. I haven't found out which car it is yet, but my bet is that it's not one offerred in North America.
I looked into doing the rear intermittent wiper on our 2000 Odyssey. They use a different motor with different contacts to trigger the cycle. Maybe an aftermarket relay?

My list of Goodies... JDM Honda stuff: LED tail lights, armrest, leather shift knob, coin tray, roof console, steering mounted radio controls. Honda Canada stuff: rubber floor mats, trunk liner, cargo cover, cargo net, re-keyed locking gas cap, exhaust tip finisher, lock nuts. ICE: JVC KD-AVX33 headunit, PAC SWI-JACK. Other items: Eibach Pro springs, CL map lights with Homelink, LED 3rd brake light, tint.
If I get my hands on a JDM intermittent wiper stalk, what do you thikn the chances of being able to use the electronics on an RSX stalk? Probably not worth the $$ to buy the stalk in the first place (around CDN$80)
That could be one expensive way around it. No idea if the RSX unit has room for the electronics it it. I'd compare the OEM Fit stalk to the RSX one first, and then decide.

Yuf, I just thought of something tonight. You probably have all the parts needed to complete the setup. The electronics in the Fit wiper stalk will have a resistor. That resistor would be removed and the wires from the variable setting would replace it. The variable setting is basically a variable resistor.
If you can open up the stock unit and take some clear pictures of it, post them or email them to me and I'll try to figure it out.

B17gsr,
Please explain, how did you have locking gas cap rekeyed? Have this accessory myself and would like just the ignition key to unlock the gas cap. Explain!

Another alternative... but it would take an electronics tinkerer to refine the circuit... This design would leave the control stalk and rear wiper motor untouched and add no unsightly extra controls -- at the cost of a small circuit board added inside the hatch and a bit of initial confusion for the user. I don't have the wiring schematic for the Fit so I'm not positive this would work but the discussion in this thread leads me to believe it would.
This PROGRAMMABLE INTERMITTENT WIPER circuit consists of an R-C timer with passive ICs (and/or microcontroller with a capacitive hold-up circuit if you want more accuracy). Essentially the control is "invisible" when the user turns the rear wipers on for the first time. If the rear wipers are turned off (for up to 15 seconds or so) and then right back on, the circuit measures the "off time" and then continues to periodically breaks the "on signal" to the wiper motor. Thus it gives the user the abilility to have "infinitely variable" rear wipers depending upon how long they leave the wiper control in the off position. The key is being able to reasonably measure the "off time" up to the 15 second "guard time" and then be able to replicate this pattern. If the wiper is left off for more than 15 seconds, then the circuit resets and you have to start over again.
Can't say that I invented this circuit -- I seem to recall that something like this was kicked around about 2 decades ago in something I read and I'm not even sure if it was for a wiper... but I did a fast google and didn't come across anyone offering something like this aftermarket. Now all we need is an entreprenurial electronics wizard to turn this into reality and make $$$$ selling it to all of us Fit owners... and I will gracefully only take a 10-15% of the revenue as my design royalty :-)
I thought of this today as I was coming in to work in a drizzle and had to keep fiddling with the rear wipers....

I'm still contemplating whether or not to order the JDM wiper stalk. Not sure if it's worth the $80-100 for the piece as it might become a paperweight....
Yuf, can you measure the resistance between the two extra wires at max/min. I just might get the Pilot unit and move over the internals and mod the circuitry.

I also ordered the Pilot wiper arm. I had a look at the electronic internals of the Fit wiper arm, and they used a bunch of integrated circuit components that I can't read. I'll just create a external circuit and be done with it. I think I'll also add a circuit for a rear wiper delay at the same time.

Well, I was checking out Honda UK website and although they are RHD, the wiper and signal stalks are not reversed....so I was thinking maybe the FRV wiper arm would work without having to mod anything.....
Now if I could only find a wiring diagram for the FRV....
Had a bit of time last weekend and thought I might take a crack at the idea I posted previously. Already cranked out the majority of the hardware-independent firmware and started looking around for possible microcontrollers for a prototype (a productized version would probably be cheaper using an FPGA or even discretes but that will be for later :-) If I'm lucky, I can keep the prototype circuit down below $50 and I'm guessing a productized version could be half of that.
My questions to those of you that are already sleuthing out the circuits...
a) Does the USDM wiring for the rear wiper pretty much match what is in the 2005 Fit/Jazz manual that's been circulating on this site for download? I'm hoping to make this design connector compatible with the existing harness.
b) With the Jazz models that have intermittent wipers, the control unit is located under the rear side trim panel. With the USDM, is the connector (with a jumper) brought out to this same location or does the wiring harness simply skip this location? I was going to design my circuit to nestle in close to the wiper motor but I may have clearance issues... the rear side trim panel area would be far more comfy but not if I have to splice into the wiring harness.

Can you get the part number? If it matches the one out of the RSX, Odyssey, Pilot, etc we'll know it won't work.
