TOP 10 highest LATERAL G

So did anyone happen to pick up a issue of Sports Compact Car for May?
Almost at the end of the mag. SCC listed the top 10 cars to have highest lateral G's, you guessed it, the Fit made it on to the list! matter of fact, it's actually the Spoon Fit that made it. Here goes the list:

1. Loren & Toseann Fancy - PVP 250CC SuperKart - 1.39 Lateral-g
2. Erich Joiner - Williams FW08C F1 racecar - 1.38 Lateral-g
3. WorldSpeed Motorsports - Pro Formula Mazda - 1.30 Lateral-g
4. Spoon Sports - Honda S2000 racecar (AP1) - 1.17 Lateral-g
5. C-West - Honda S2000 racecar (AP1) - 1.15 Lateral-g
6. Spoon Sports - Honda Fit racecar - 1.09 Lateral-g
7. ForcedFed Performance - Lotus Elise - 1.08 Lateral-g
8. SCC - Project Miata - 1.08 Lateral-g
9. Road/Race Engineering - Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII - 1.06 Lateral-g
10. Calvin Wan - Mazda RX-7 (FD3S) - 1.06 Lateral-g

These are cars that were tested by SCC only, I'm sure there are a lot more cars out there that can do much more G's!

so i didn't take alot of physics in highschool

but i'm guessing lateral g means the force you feel horizontally??

which means these cars have a very high amount of traction while cornering???

hahaha, dang i shoulda taken more physics in highschool but yeah, i'm guessing its a good thing to have a higher amount of lateral g's

Do they really think a s2000 race car is only .2g behind a F1 car and a shifter kart? A shifter kart can do 2.5g without any aerodynamics.

the list was according to the magazine writers/editors/etc so its not a fact, but its a rough estimate

K, so this is basically based on how quick a turn you can make or how much force is applied to the body turning at a set speed for each vehicle ...? :/

well...

regardless of how many g's a f1 vehicle can pull, the subject at hand is the awesome underdog known as a honda fit. it ain't about who pulls more than us, its about how our little cars have the potential to out manuever a 60,000$ mid engine race car like the lotus exige. or the infamous gymkhana legend, the mazda miata. its even better that the fit can outdo a 4WD monster like the LAN EVO. Come on ppl! Get on your feet and make some noise for this amazing little compact! its in a league of its own IMO!!!!! now who wants to give me rep points? lol

Make me decide between an evo of a given year and a fit with power on par with an evo...iono, lol. I would say evo straight up but then I'd think about it and think a ~300hp fit would be perty sexy too.

I once achieved a very intense amount of lateral G's when I was going 80 mph on a jetski and turned left as hard as possible.

The test done is basically worthless since it doesn't show the full potential of each vehicle. The cars were probably only driven in a circle until they couldn't keep it on the track anymore.

On the other hand, a fit pulling over 1g is still very impressive.

This summer i went to a track to do some competition slalom...
and let me tell you that this bad boy can really handle the curves...
even with crapy tires on... (i'm talking about the dunlops that come with the car)
even though i was unexperienced compared to the other guys, i had some really descent times...
and i was facing a G35, an audi TT, 2 subaru, a mazda RX-8 and other amazing cars...

5g peak only @ high speed for max downforce.

at the slow speed they use for this test (time around a set small radius), it's all mechanical grip and virtually no aero grip (most of the grip is from downforce).

add into that, the Fit is the Tallest of that group which is especially amazing.

One of the mags? (dont remember) said that the GD3 was one of the fastest cars ever thru their slalom

Based on Newtonian physics, no car without aerodynamics should be able to corner at more than 1G. A tire on asphalt does not do the standard friction you were taught in high school. The rubber vulcanizes with the pavement. This allows the car to exceed 1G even without spoilers.

I have no read up on the corners of F1 cars, but if they are doing 5Gs, you can be certain that aerodynamics are involved.
