MT Sport: fluttering noise @ 2500-3000rpm?

I got my MT Sport Fit last week. I have logged about 800 miles since then. Today I have noticed that the car makes a fluttering noise in 1st and 2nd gears when the rpm nears 2500-3000 under soft gentle acceleration. this noise is almost like a turning fan hitting a piece of paper. Is this normal? It seems to be worse when I first start the car. thanks.

I listened today and couldn't hear such a noise lexfit. Other than the obvious change in pitch as the RPM's increase, I didn't really notice any difference in the "character" of the sound at certain RPM's.

Just to update my situation... I brought my car to the dealership this previous monday to let them know about the fluttering noise and fuel sloshing around when coming to stop or accelerating from a stop. The tech drive it around with me in the passenger seat. He was surprised at how loud the fuel slosh was (almost as if someone is hitting/tapping the seatrest). He checked the Honda news bulletin and found that it's a known issue and that there is nothing they can do about it. He even had another tech drive it to get a second opinion. In the end, they said it was normal. Regarding the fluttering noise, they said it is normal too.... I am surprised that no one on this forum hear this fluttering noise from their Fit??? It's not very loud, but definitely noticeable (particularly from a cold start).

Wink What? Huh?

When you get as old as me and Claymore, you won't hear such things so much anymore. Until then, turn up the music!

Just kidding. I wish.

Good luck

Joe

heard it too

You're not crazy. At least you're not crazy about the noise. My Sport AT did it over the winter - always about 2500 rpm, slight pressure on gas. Now it's gone.

I know what noise you're talking about. I had mentioned the noise during my first oil change, but the techs said they were not able to hear it during their test drive. They probably just don't know what to listen for because I heard it right away after I picked up the car. The techs did try to tighten up my manifold shield in the engine bay because that was the cause of some noise on one of the tech's own Fit, but alas it was not the source of my problem.

It sounds to me like maybe a shield or something under the floor is loose or something. But from your description, it sounds like the same noise.

Yea, after the car warms up, the flutter/rattle is not as noticeable. Perhaps the metal expands and tighten everything up.... leading to a reduction in the flutter. It could very well be some heat shield or other parts of the exhaust system.

I completely removed the plastic exhaust manifold shield and drove it around for a little bit, and I still hear the noise. Perhaps it's those 2 plastic clip fasteners that are rattling around? ???

I have a Manual Transmission Sport and I'm hearing what sounds like that also. I don't hear it all the time, but notice it occasionally when I'm accelerating (I usually keep it between 2000 & 3000 rpms). I was kind of wondering about the noise, but I wasn't worried about it yet (and hope I don't have to be worried)....

just noticed this thread, I had the same thing around 2600 RPM
Took a while for me and the dealer to find it.
It is the heat shield on the exhaust manifold (header). The dealer replaced mine and that cured it! He put a broom handle on it while reving the engine up and down to prove that it was the problem before ordering a new one
