From what Ive noticed, when you park far away its almost like asking to get your car messed with.

Not only is it far from others that can be witnesses but its almost like saying "My car is the shit. I park far so people notice my car and its too good to park next to yours."

What I try to do is park next to handicapped spots. Most of these spots give wheel chair accessible vans at least an extra 10feet. Avoid parking when vans are parked there.
Spots with medians, park as close as you can to the curb (away from others)
Some may disagree but next to cart stations (people leave carts) The whole side of your car is guarded from cars and carts by polls. Leaves the rear more open though.

Just stay away from Wranglers. Their doors swing open uncontrollably.

Sorry to hear that. That sucks! People are rude when it comes to throwing their doors open. I always park in the WAAAAY back, and someone always seems to park right next to me...

that sucks, man. i was terrified of getting my first door ding, then i got one, and was even more pissed off than i thought i would be, haha.

as far as parking reeeally far away goes, i do it when i'm able to. however, the last time i went to olive garden, i saw a jaguar parked diagonally over two spots in the very far back and i thought "man, is this guy asking for it."

Before I got my Fit I had a Civic. I went shopping one day and when I returned to my car there was a nice big dent near the passenger front wheelwell. Somebody had parked a bicycle next to my car and locked it to a street sign and it feel over. Bummer!

So far my Fit has only suffered small wounds from being hit from behind. No door dings (knock on ... Formica).

Sorry about your ride man. Unfortunately sometimes no matter how much you try, you still get shafted. I've had days where I park in the middle of nowhere, spaces everywhere, and what do I see when I come back? Ass hats parked really close next to me, with those same spaces available everywhere!

So you never know, retards are out there, unfortunately we have to share the world with them because its against the law to smack them. So we must live with them.

prelude_guy97 will become famous soon enough
It's perfectly normal for a big dent to start rusting quickly because once the paint, primer and the galvanized coating on the steel break from being hit....the rusting process begins very quickly.

Hope you get it fixed quickly!

I've never been in this situation *knock on wood* so are you going to pay out of pocket or could your insurance cover it?

I park as close to the stores as possible.. right next to the handi spots even. Managed to avoid door dings so far :P Rock chips on the other hand.... I had one more like a rock dent/chip but got it pushed out with the rest of the hail damage I had. The worst are the gravel trucks who hit a bump in the road and a bunch of gravel comes flying off bouncing all over the highway.

Although it's kinda scary watching the 90 year old driving a rusting 86 lesabre or something come into the handi spot next to you with the widest slowest turn possible and still run over the curb.. and seem like they didn't even notice.
