Question about using the aux input port...

My Fit is the first car I've owned that actually has an aux input port. My question is that I want to connect my iPod to this aux input port and wanted to know what cable I need in order to accomplish this? Thanks.

just a double ended male headphone cable. I got one that has a spool that can shorten or lengthen the wire as needed, so when I pull it out of the cubby, I can look at it while leaving it hooked up without having lots of wire floating around the cabin when it's in the cubby.

Oh, and on the topic of the Aux input... Make sure the cable is plugged in all the way. If that is the case or if it is not plugged in at all, the stereo won't let you select "Aux". That threw me off quite a bit once.

Thanks Fellas!

My apologies if my question was a dumb one, but even my BMW didn't come with an aux port (it came with a cassette player though) so I would use the cassette adapter thing to allow my iPod to play on my car stereo.

FIT IPOD questions
Do you have a link to the cable that you have? I'm looking for one with a retractable cord as well (don't like having lots of wire all over the place).

So basically I need a 1/8 inch mini to 1/8 inch mini cable, right?

Go to your local radioshack and they have a pretty good selection, and even have a variety of colors. I got one for my iPhone and its great, it even lets me take calls through the speakers of my car!

i buy the cable and it didn't work at all.

My question is : is it possible that some MP3 can't be plugged in that AUX input ??? A guy at the dealer was able with his IPOD... i have a RCA MP3... not a IPOD but I thought it can be plugged... i don't understand.

All MP3 players have the same type of headphone jack. If you can plug ordinary headphones or earbuds into the player, then it will work with the Aux jack.

If you use this, you have to control the ipod uing the buttons on the Ipod, not the stereo(other than volume)

You may have to turn the volume on your player up almost all the way. Many players have volume limiting to "protect our hearing".
I set my player at 23 out of 25 and still need to turn the radio volume dial up a little higher than normal radio listening.

Make sure you have the correct cable. A cable with two ends for plugging into a regular stereo WILL NOT WORK, it doesn't click in correctly. Ask at the store, they'll know as they likely sell a lot of them. It has to look like a headphone plug in at both ends.

And as others have said, turn the volume on your MP3 player up to max, as otherwise you'll have to turn the car stereo up forever. I'm usually at around 10 on the car stereo, full on the mp3.

also make sure it's not a MONO connector and it's a STEREO for dual channels!

i got one from radio shack that was about $5 and it's a foot long, perfect length so there's no extra cable lying around, but i can still pick up the ipod to change songs and whatnot.

tolnep is on a distinguished road
i have 1 t1 in my house. i have a slingbox on the t1. the slingbox is connected to my satellite box and to a vhs record.

i have a verizon evdo rev-a card for my laptop.

so i connect to the internet, connect to the slingbox, plug the headphone cable into the laptop and aux port, and watch tv in my car and have stereo sound at the same time.

funny when you pull into a burger place and the see the laptop and hear the sound and you say watch.. i can change channels...

now whats cool is i can be 500 miles away from my home and watch local tv in my car....

cable

Walmart even sells a Monster 1/8 to 1/8 mini stereo plug for this purpose. They want 8.99 here and Radio Shack wants 5.99 for their no frills cord.

For some reason at radio shack, they sell more mono than stereo. I really don't know why

The safest bet is go to a computer shop. These double male 3.5 mm stereo audio cables are the same ones used to connect computer speakers to the computer.

if your powered only by a AA battery than you wont get much sound out of the thing- ipods have a good power source- but you might need to hook up a power cord to the rca

The power source of your MP3 player has NOTHING to do with audio level coming out of the headphone jack.

umm yes it does-

A standard headphone jack does not give as much output as a standard line out jack
