New 2008 Fit Sport...want more power

Hey I just bought a 2008 fit sport and I love this car. I really want to upgrade its performance and looks. Can anyone tell me a few easy ways to get some more horsepower?

Welcome to fitFreak!

You already want more power?!? Did you by the car with out driving it or something lol. Get exhaust and intake or do what Chris has suggested.

^^+1 hahaha.

imho, i think the car has enough power to satisfy wat a micro-hatch
should do in stock form. the 'performance' mods on this car is merely
for noise. i got an axle-back for cosmetics and some noise.

i mean come on, you net max 10-12whp with intake/axle back and
you're still slower than ~99% of the cars out there.

why not just concentrate on other areas of the car... like cosmetics?
(just my 2 cents).

Personally, I say go for the power mods first, it's the weakest part of the car's performance. It's never going to be a rocket ship, but you can still improve the drivabilty & response noticeably if you choose your parts well. S/C of course is the best, but I/H/E will show gains if you don't have the cash outlay for FI.

i think the drivability and response is fine on my MT. ive not driven the AT
so not sure, but on MT, its got enough usable torque to make the drive
very fun. (this coming from a guy that has other cars much faster than
the FitS).

also, i noted that the car is eco-friendly and basically does not allow
backfire at wot or any unburned fuel to escape.

if you wot to 5k it's not going to do much and will over rev into redline
to burn the last of the fuel. bascially it feels like it's out of air for the
amount of fuel it's trying to deliver. but the funny is that you start to
roll off the throttle around 4.2k and allow less air, the ECU corrects the
fuel amount and a/f is optimized...basically causing the car to accelerate
quite a bit more to redline while your throttle angle is less. very weird feeling.

i suppose you can get an intake to partially correct that, but imho, it's
the eco-friendly fuel map that's the root cause. it's up to you, but
im going to save my $255 (chambered intake) and just let off the
throttle a little bit to pull harder. the ecu will eventually adapt to the
cai/sri environment anyway causing the car to be about the same
in power unless you keep resetting the ecu.

That may not be enough. Better get a V-12, or one of the VWAG W16 engines.

why stop at a V12? just get a spaceshuttle.

the point is, the FitSport 5MT in stock form is fast enough for fun driving,
imho.

Coming from a WRX and STI, I thought the power loss would bother me more, but after about a month of ownership, I don't miss it that much. The only time I do miss it is getting up to speed coming out of a driveway onto a busy street, or accelerating on the freeway so that I'm moving fast enough to merge w/o getting rear-ended. The lack of power actually strikes me as a safety concern more than just the visceral desire to go fast. If power were more in the 140hp range, then wow, that'd be perfect for a car of this size.

well put...i feel the same way about the fit. I just need a bit more power to get get up to speed with other cars but when im at 60-70mph and even 80mph then there isnt any problems.

well i guess someone who puts an axle back on a car for looks doesn't really have any regard to good whp gains.

10-12 whp isn't half bad. Most decent i/h/e setups at least quality ones, have shown even more than that.

Personally i don't think thats too shabby. And an good a.m.exhaust is usually necessary for forced induction.

I don't think that most fit drivers who want to modify their cars are looking for track demons, just for slight sleepers, as in my case.

i.e. a lighlty force inducted fit will easily run most sporty compacts (gti's sis se'rs) at least in their stock form.

do you have a AT or MT? cause the limitation ive felt on the MT was
traction.. especially accelerating to speed into a busy street (LH turn)
but not enough to want a LSD.

eldaino- its very simple.

do you want to sound like a screaming NA ricor honda that gets dusted
by most of the cars on the road anyway, or enjoy the quiet quick
motoring?

i choose the latter on this car. i wish my megan was quieter, to
tell you the truth.

A/T, though i have broken traction a few times. (i don't think the stock dunlops are all that great.)

as far as sounding like a ricer goes, suprisingly, there are plenty of axle backs that are made to perform with deep tone, but not be loud at all, while still offering performance.

Fujitsubo wagolis and Tanabe medallion touring come to mind. These are both good looking exhausts that don't really look aftermarket, just very nice. and they add a nice personality to the fit and are neccessary (well, at least a bigger b pipe is necessary) when you do go F.I. and your trying to get the most out of your fit.

I'm really the most un-ricer guy you could ever meet.

I have the MT. Haven't had any situations where traction has become a problem, and part of what's intensifying these feelings of wanting more acceleration power is that I'm still breaking in the car (only at about 500 miles right now), so I'm not flogging it yet. Still, though, I think 109 hp/105 tq is a bit on the low side for a 2500 lb car... stripped, I'm sure the car screams, but that's not the route I want to take with it.

I blame the stock rims and tires on the constant wheel spin I get. Going to put the new rims on soon so hopefully that will solve that problem.
