no, im masking it off and taking off as many parts as i can. putting drop cloths on the seats and the doors. everything else is being masked off with paper and tape. taking out the dash would be too much work and kind of pointless.

Right hand drives still look funny to me. Haha. Good luck with the painting tho. Thats just to much work for my taste. Im painting all the little pieces that can be pulled off. Everything else is gonna get left alone. Hope it turns out well.

there is no paint on that part. it is just textured plastic. i am taking the texture down with the red scotchbrite pads. wipe it down with wax and grease remover, spray some adhesion promoter on it, shoot it with a few coats of primer, a few coats of base, and a few coats of clear.

if anything, it could be some weird plastic urethane coating but i doubt it. although im not 100 percent sure, i know its not regular auto paint. either way, if its paint or not, you only have to scuff it enough so the paint will grab on to it because its already a smooth surface to work with.

in an inconspicuous area just scrape it to find out if it is painted.
I highly doubt it, as it is probably molded out of a colored plastic, and if not then its done in a two part casting where the top surface is a plastic color and the backing is a more rigid plastic and diff color.

Even if it was just painted initially you would not remove it, you would just lightly key it to give it a good tooth and (primer if you prefer) paint it. I would personally take it out and do it....but just do whatever makes you more comfortable, just mask like a mad man and make sure the paint sprays back there or it will look really uneven from the outside looking in.

Carefull making it glossy though as you might get serious glare from that area, which is why its usually matt or less reflective. you can put some cling wrap down and drive around to see if you get glare, then proceed accordingly.

anywho hope some of that helps...
and no I have not seen anybody paint just that particular item on a Fit...
but ya never know....

good luck guys post em when you got em...
