well i have a CAI. that helps out a lot. shift at 3k city driving
i cruise control it on the freeway at 60mph.
i keep up with maintenance.(oil @3k, sparkplugs at 15k, clean air filter every oil change,)
uh...just drive like a 90 yr old person that cant really see..so they have to drive slow.
You are WAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY overmaintaining your Fit. The Maintenance Minder really does work, you should think about it. Honda oil is a synthetic blend, you are wasting your money changing it at 3000 miles. Also, you are wasting money on spark plugs. These are platinum tipped and designed for 100,000 miles.
I check my dipstick every tank, and have been adopting some hypermiling techniques. At the very least, inflate your tires to the sidewall rating (51PSI) and engage the clutch to coast downhill on the highway.
we have rules on hypermiling/over inflation yet(its not worth over inflating your tires for daily driving)? ;/ haha... no offense to you bonsaikc, just difference of opinions. scanguage is a good investment. so is takin it easy on the car...
and engage the clutch to coast downhill on the highway.
that's a great way to kill gas mileage. leave the car in gear and take your foot off the gas. DO NOT ENGAGE THE CLUTCH OR SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL. as explained on Top Gear, leaving the car in gear while coast uses NO FUEL, but coasting in neutral forces the car to feed gas into the engine to prevent it from stalling.
i coasted in gear and accelerated very conservatively with the tank i'm on now, and i'm at 350 miles with the gas light just coming on today. mind you my fit is AT.

yeah burbio is right. i think some members on here have proven it with scanguage also...? ive read this in several posts on FF. keep it in gear when coasting if you wanna save gas...
Stay off the brakes. Get off the gas sooner so you don't need the brakes to go around the corner. You'll find many examples where a little bit of planning (thought) will help you use the brakes less.
Every time you use the brakes you lose the momentum you just paid for.
..... To keep your MPG's up? im open to any and all suggestions.
And what about those vortex things you can put in your intake hose. do those really work?
I keep my tire pressure up at 44 psi on 205/40x17's on 7" rims;you probably only need 36 psi on 195/55x15's on 6" rims. If gas milegae gets to be critical I'll go to 175/65x15's at 42 psi. Reduce rolling friction. My 175/65x15's increase mpg by 2 to 3 mpg.
And I use sport mode to shift myself rather than computer; saves lots of downshifting to higher rpm gas consuming.
i agree with getting a scangauge, i just ordered mine and from what i have read it will help you adjust ur driving style to get uber great mileage, till i get my scangauge, i simple accel smoothly to 3K and shift and dont exceed 60mph... im averagig 36-37 mpg, im hoping scangauge will help me get 40 mpg! lol

oh and I am getting 45 mpg!
ok thanks for the help ther guys. ok another question.does it hurt your gas mileage to have cruise control engaged while cruising at speeds in which Vtec is open?
i don't know about that... everything i've ever heard says CC will improve mileage. but you have a scanguage, right? what's the difference in mileage between CC and no CC?
