Valet Key

Valet Key
dumb question...but what is the purpose of the valet key? I haven't used it yet, but i'm assuming it will work the car just like the other key.
Did you guys only get two keys from the dealership, which one was the valet key? Just checking because my mechanic said that Honda use to give two keys, plus the valet key.
Thanks!

I only received two regular keys for my Fit.
A valet key lets someone start the engine and lock/unlock the doors, but does not allow them access to the trunk or the glove compartment if locked.
As others have said this does not apply to the Fit since the trunk is easy enough to get to from the back seat and the glove compartment does not lock, so therefore, no valet key necessary. Maybe a MasterLock for the glove compartment wouldn't be a bad idea, eh?

Totally what he (she?) said. I asked my dealer when picking mine up, because both my wife's Pilot, and daughter's CR-V had valet keys.

Asked my dealer about a 3rd key last week and this is what they told me... That the Fit factory keyless entry will only support 2 keys, but they can program a 3rd key for you to act as a valet key (unlock via manual lock and start the car). They would also need both remote keys at the time so they can reprogram all three keys (2 factory and 1 valet) to match your Fit. Also sounded like it was ~$50 to do the programming plus the cost of the key, which I forgot to ask about. I would like to have a 3rd key, so eventually will probably wind up doing this.
Otherwise another option is to just have a key cut and keep in the wallet/hidden spot to access the car. Which is good if you just need to get in there or the keys are locked inside. Personally I'd rather the 3rd key be able to also start it.
