CEL (!) Turned on

CEL (!) Turned on
I have a quick question guys. My Check engine light (CEL) turned on today and I was wondering if you need to reset the maintenance timer after an oil change. I didn't reset the maintenance minder, but if i didn't reset the maintenance reminder (some other cars have their cel's turn on after every 5k miles if you don't reset them) would my CEL turn on? Technically where I am at would be the 7k mark from when I last my oil but i changed it 2k ago at the 5k mark. My Fit only has 13.5k miles on it, so I'm wondering what could have triggered the CEL or if anyone can let me know how to check which CEL code I have.

1. Check the Maintenance Minder Oil Life %. If it's below 0 I believe it throws a CEL. Simply resent the Oil Life meter. The directions are in the owner's manual.
2. If that is not the case, check your gas cap for tightness. If you have a lose gas cap, your CEL can come on.
3. If it is none of these things, take it into Honda and have them check it out. They'll plug it in and find out what is wrong with your car.

Already reset the Minder, it's at 80%.
I'll check the gas cap, but I filled up yesterday morning and the light turned on today. A day gap might be odd but it was the morning and it was cold so maybe the gasket was contracted. I'll check that before I start driving, worse comes to worse I'll take it in.
So it isn't the minder, may be the gas cap, other than that I have no idea.

i don't think the fit throws a cel when you don't reset the maintenence minder, it just shows how many negative miles you have every time you turn on your car.
did you get it serviced by honda? if so, they should have reset it for you.
check your gas cap thing, its very common for hondas to throw a cel when you don't click it more than once.

I got a check fuel cap message on the MM display, and it set the CEL several miles later. I assume all Fits would function the same so if you didn't get the fuel cap message, that's probably not what set your CEL.
Stop by an Auto parts store and have them read your codes for you.

My only issue is I work 7 to 7 every day. I'll go get the CEL checked at AutoZone tonight and figure out the code. Worse comes to worse I'll take a personal day Friday to take it in.

Still wouldnt hurt to scan the computer when you get a chance, see if some code was stored at all. You can get readers as cheap as like 40 bux or so, well worth it IMO.
