CA Tint

I've already searched the forum about this but didn't find the answer I was looking for. Anyways does any of you guys know the darkest shade you can put on your windows? I know in here in SoCal, Tint is a big deal. So my question is what shade should I go with, 15 or 20 front and rear or what. thanks guys.

you can go as dark as you want on the rear windows. it is illegal to put ANY tint on the front windows or windshield.

Go to a tint shop and look at the shades. See what you like. Each state seems to have different regulations on tinting, how dark you can go on what windows, etc. and they will show you what the window will look like.

I was told that here in TX, 35% is as dark as I can go on the side windows. Not sure if that's true but I need to see examples before I can decide.

And I can tint the very top of the front windshield, but only down about 5 inches.

Socal u can go no lower than 35%. But u will be fine if u do. i went with 5% which is as low as u can go with tint in socal. Also its called elite image that does it in San Diego for cheap. They give u a lifetime warranty to if it fades and if u get a cop that says u have to take it of they will take the tint off for free for life time. I got told to go to them by the owner of hondafittuner. Which is a good shop in San Diego for the Fit to. Me i am going to get 30% here in FL for my tint. I think it looks good and wont get me in trouble now i just have to find a place around here

70% in the Front is Legal. Go as dark as you want in the back. I went with 50% Front and it's not too dark. No cops have bothered me yet.

You can go as dark as you want on the read windows and back. You can do 30% max on the front. People who tell you you can't have any on the front are reading the law incorrectly.

30% front is too dark in CA. You interpreted the law incorrectly.

Thanks for all the information y'all are giving and they are very helpful. Maybe I might go with 35% all around, because having two different shades seem to look retarded to me, but thats just my opinion, there are others out there that have 2 different shades and still look cool.

one shade for the hole care keeps it looking clean man. 35% would be good its not to dark and does the job. But i got away with 5% on the evo so its up to u. But i would say its very hard driveing at night with that dark of tint i mean the 5% just stick with 35% and u will be good. I am doing 35% or 30% not sure which yet but keeping the same all around

I went to the tint shop this morning - I am pretty sure I'm going with 35% all around...or, maybe 35% in front, 20% rear window. I like an even-all-around look but then I just saw one on the pic thread that is a fade from 50% to 35% to 20% going back from the front and it looked hot.

It's hard to know what to do because I've always bought cars w/tint already installed. And the tint guy showed me his car, which seemed dark, but he said it was 35%. That's the shade he does for a Mazda dealer down the road - they must know what most people do or don't want, right?

Possible to go 35% on sides, 25% rear? Or does the tint only come in certain percentages?

Well maybe I should look for this car with the fade tint, sounds cool and awesome lol. But if the window tint shop won't/can't do it I will just go with my 35% around. Are you getting your tint anytime soon?

I rock the 50/35/20. I feel comfortable driving around, but when I see a cop I still roll down my front windows

Yeah, like tomorrow! Yay. My first "real" mod. But not my last!

I think I'll get 35% all around. I think. The new shop I found uses Madico film and I don't know if that's different from Lumar. I'll see if they can show me some shades and decide. I see a LOT of SUVs that have heavy tint in the rear window, must be 5% or maybe 15%, then 35% the rest of the windows. Never really paid any attention before!

Super Mario posted his pic, so there it is. That looks beautiful, doesn't it??

I was thinking 35s up front and 20s for the back. Do you think cops will give me a hard time for the 35s up front? or should I go lighter?

You are going pretty light then. I'm ready to leave for the shop and still need to see an example of 50% v. 30%.

Sure. I thought it would get done today, but then I got to the shop and they were all high-pressure and upselling me, they told me $125 over the phone, but then I got there and the "lifetime" warranty for that level of tint only covered peeling, not bubbling or flaking or whatever. Then he showed me their premium tint and suddenly I was at $200 + tax. I walked out. Told them I'd have to think about it.

I have an appointment at the first place I found...His price is higher to start with but it's warranted for life for everything. I told him 35% and 20%, and I hope that's not too dark. Maybe I should go with 50% in front??? Or 50-30-20 like Super Mario?

I'm so confuzzled!!
