Bitchings of a Victim of Emblem Theft

Call me whatever you want, but I like the Type-R Emblems, despite their price. But it's quite ****ing ridiculous that, for whatever reason, I'm not allowed to enjoy them on my car because it has been TWICE now that those emblems have been stolen off my car by some punk-ass kid.

Does anyone else share this immense hatred that is seething and germinating inside of me? I swear, if I could just get my hands on the little prick who has the audacity to steal from others, I'd do a lot worse to him than the melon merchant from Aladdin.

Sure, I've been lucky in this sort of area of vandalism, the first time they stole all of my emblems including the stock Fit one and left little to no paint-job damage, other theft or other damage. And the second time, they left the new Fit emblem and only took the rear Type-R because I didn't install the front one. And sure, maybe I shouldn't have room to be pissed the **** off about this whole ordeal since they didn't break inside and steal my iPod, Mugen Visors or smash a heavily tinted window that would cost even more money than Emblems. But this whole allowance of petty theft is ridiculous and down-right bullshit!

Does anyone have any ideas of how I could scout, capture, torture and/or create a living hell for this malevolent ****-face who is assaulting my poor, defenseless car? Anybody who can teach me to rig-up a night-vision camera or alarm system that would wake me up in my sleep to get this guy? Possibly anyone with the knowledge of a full-automated, 12-barrel mini-gun sentry gun with a sort of vicinity detection programming that gives a small warning to the victim before unleashing a hellish dimension of pain, misery and lead-based ****-spray leading to a bloody and fantastic display of well-performed redemption?

Please, I'm all ears. I'm about two days away from putting another two emblems on and sitting in a bush for a week with an elephant tranquilizer, taking the **** alive, bound and gagged into my house and teaching him what happens to thieves. If only I had the money, considering I've had to spend over $120 on ****ing emblems... Sigh..

I know you're mainly just venting.

However, my thoughts:

I doubt that you could tune your alarm so that it is sensitive enough to prevent emblem theft. If it was that sensitive, it would go off every time the wind blows.

That being said, I personally find it odd that they stole even the stock fit emblems.

As you said I think the key phrase is "kid".. either it's a neighborhood kid... or...??

Also, consider the environment where your emblems were stolen. Was it always in the same place (i.e. outside your house)?

Is there anybody in the area who might have a personal problem with you?

Is there anybody in the area who might be playing a joke on you? Do you brag too much about your car and/or the special emblems you placed on it?

As far as security for the emblems go, I would personally just not put them back on there except perhaps for rallies and/or special occasions.

Or I would think about physical security. Are they completely plastic, or is there anywhere you could make a weld on them (any metal parts)? , Is there any way to attach a bracket, chain, or metal cable to them without damaging their appearance? Obviously this is not possible for the rear fit emblem, but I didn't know if it was possible for the front H emblem. I would think you would need a special sensor on your alarm attached just to the H emblem, but once again you would need some way of attaching it to the emblem, and your alarm would need to be capable of handling another input.

There are probably little wireless battery, or dc-powered security cameras you can get. A good forum for them is NetworkCameraReviews.com - IP Camera Forum

Just like Pulp Fiction my friend. You don't mess with another mans car. It would be worth him stealing the emblems if you could catch him in the act. Its a horrible feeling being the victim of vandalism such as this. I have had several instances along these lines and I sympathize with you my friend.

On another note if you really wanted to you could buy some strong magnets and attach them to the emblem. Then you could remove them at will although that means that anybody could remove them at will. Just a thought, I wish you luck with the situation.

But yeah this IS bullshit. I have red emblems and red dot fit emblem too. Luckily I have not had them stolen yet(knock on wood). I was super paranoid about having them stolen when i first put them on. I'm more at ease about it now. But I park my car in the garage, and I'm not worried about them being stolen at work either. But Everytime I walk back to my car in the parking lot at school, I'm shocked when i see that they are still on my car. Also shocked to find my sidemarkers still on the car. I've heard stories of people having their entire JDM ITR front ends and visors being stolen off of the car at school. Hope you catch the little pricks and cut their fingers off!

7?!? why do you keep putting them back on??

For that matter, why do people steal the emblems??

It's not like it's wearable as hip jewelry like round mercedes, vw, and cougar emblems of the 80s.

I guess if you put fancier special import emblems that cost extra moolah on, then someone might want to steal them to put them on their own vehicles.. but it's not like they have lots of alternative or decorative uses.

Is there really that much Hondalove out there??

I've said this before, but it reminds me of highschool. HAHA. I remember kids use to hot glue Honda emblems to their backpacks. I always thought it was stupid. For fuk sake, does it make you walk to class faster? LOL!

Haha, wow - I never expected this many replies so quickly, lol.

You guys offered the idea of a more "secure" installation, like glue or welding or whatnot. My only fear of gorilla glueing that shit on and the only thing that's kept me from it so far is the fact that, the thief might get irritated with the in-ability of success and losing that they'd do something worse (i.e. keying, breaking windows, etc.).

Funny idea though, I never really thought of it as a kid stealing it for back-pack jewelry, that's a very interesting idea... But honestly, I think the suspect is a "black-market"esque thief, one who knows about aftermarket car emblems and knows they are held on with double-stick tape. He knew they were easy to take off and even took the stock Fit emblem (who the hell does that?!).

Also, the FIRST time I got all three emblems stolen, a very interesting occurrence happened, my gas-cap was hanging out of my gas tank area and the "flap" part was closed on-top of it. Further investigation of it, the plastic "wire" that holds it to the car was stretched out as-if the thief attempted to pull and rip my gas cap off...
Apparently, that is common occurrence in these sort of scenarios, in accordance to a "gangbanging" (for lack of a better term) fellow employee of mine at my local place of business..

As someone also asked, yes - my emblems were stolen off my car in the same place each time, outside my house in the dead of night. I live in a pretty good neighborhood too... I guess it's not that good.

Where can I get one of those gophers...?

Get a locking gascap from a Honda element. I had gotten mine from the dealer. Then nobody can open your cap and pour sugar in it.

They fit just as easily on the Fit?
Did you have your's cut to your ignition key? That sounds like a great idea, I might do that!

It's funny you say that, because the night of the second thievery - I went out to check out something on the inside of my car around 1:30AM. Then woke up around 7:00AM with a text from my girlfriend saying the rear emblem was stolen again... Maybe I'm werewolfing it or something

Yeah back in highschool my sophmore year when being a riced out wanabe gangbangers was cool, the kids used to do that. HAHA. I live in a really safe neighborhood. And I had the gascap stolen off my old car. The gas door was closed though, so I did not find out about it for about a week until i made a trip to the gas station.

Locking car cover, it has to lock, otherwise they'll steal that too. It locks via grommets on each side, and a cable that runs under the car.

That's part one. Part two is the butt-cheap, incredibly loud personal alarm that you rig up to the car cover and the car itself...
Personal Alarms - Safety and Self Defense

They're activated by pulling the metal pin out of the unit, not by the button looking thing. They'll have two attachment points, one being the part that sets off the alarm (often has a ring at the end). The other being a carry strap, often with a clip.

The cover itself is a slight deterrent. Any time you make it a little harder for someone to steal things, it increases the likelihood of them getting caught. They don't want to get caught, and they don't want to be seen.

Lighting is an option, if you own your own home. Driveway lighting, for instance, along the path to the front door, things like that. People that are up to no good will shy away, other generally nosy people won't. Like after discovering how the lint collects on the Fit seats, I've started looking in the windows of ALL the cars to see if it's a trend, if all cars have linty seats, and what kinds of fabric look good.

So I might look the same as your thief, because I'm checking out cars, but I have no intentions of stealing anything (other than stealing the idea of the kind of fabric in someone's car for potentially recovering my own seats).

Can't do that with a car cover. And I certainly would not be pulling off car covers myself just to see what kind of fabric is in the car...ANYONE messing with the cover becomes suspect.

Having that little alarm on the front and back of the cover, clipped to the body and cover, so that whomever is bold enough to mess with the cover, will get a BIG surprise with a whole lot of noise.
------

Another idea for ya, it's a bird/nature-watching device. Which could be a great safety item too, and it's not too expensive. It's a motion-detection camera:
The National Geographic Online Store - Digital Motion-detection Cameras

National Geographic photographer Michael Nichols uses highly specialized remote-camera systems to obtain remarkable images of never-before-seen wildlife behavior. Triggered by heat and movement, both the 35-mm and the two digital models of these simplified all-weather cameras take multiple images to capture backyard wildlife. Equipped with a wide-angle lens with 60-degree field of view and two test modes, these cameras will run for 21 days of 24-hour operation before needing fresh batteries. Approximately 5 3/4''W x 7 1/2''H x 2 1/2''D.
------

All the things are LEGAL. All the things are fairly CHEAP. AND, best of all, all the above things are useful items that you can use whether or not you have people stealing your stuff.

The cover is great for protecting against sun fade. The personal alarms can be put even on your keychain (the small ones), so if anyone EVER tries to carjack you, you pull out the pin, and the alarm can be attached to your key chain itself. The thief gets the car, and the keys, and the nasty loud alarm attached to the keys.

That camera is neat. I've been looking at them for awhile. I'm convinced the cats have parties when I'm not here. I want to catch them in the act. I have birds that come to my balcony that I'd like to photograph, but just going near the window scares them away.

You could wrap that camera around a headrest. The people stealing the items aren't going to know if you're in the car taking photos of them, or if it's a wildlife camera. They probably won't stick around to find out either.
------

But wait, there's more...

There are battery operated motion detector lights or light/alarm combos you can buy, cheap, like at Radio Shack:
Portable Motion Detector Alarm/Chime - RadioShack.com

All kinds of battery-operated lighting options with motion detectors that are used in the home, that might be useful in the car:
Indoor Motion Sensor Lights - Mini - Pack of 2

Not just for thieves, but maybe additional lighting in the cargo area that could mounted anywhere without wiring. And they are made for the home, so use them in closets, even in those dark, spooky cabinets like the one I have under the sink.
------

Useful items that could help thwart your thievery problem!!

my tip:

install video cameras and motion sensors, when motion sensor goes have have a make a loud noise where you sleep, you wake up, pull out a .44 magnum, and then repeat this line from Dirty Harry....this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

Janizary is on a distinguished road
Many, many moons ago I used to have my emblems stolen off my '85 Prelude Si, then my Accord. It would happen at home, at friend's houses, in damn casino parking garages. I stopped putting them back on it happened so many times. Worse, every other time the jackasses would use a key or something hard and end up scrapping the paint around the emblem in their attempt to remove it!

Trust me, I was thinking about trying to figure out how to wire electrical lines to the emblems. Assweasels.
