Engine swaps other than the K?

I'm sure this has been talked about before, but are there any other avenues for a swap in the Fit besides the K? I'm not talking like F, H or B series, but what about the R-series from the 2006 and up Civic (non-Si)? It has 140 HP and 128lbs of TQ, which is nearly a 40% power increase over the L-series. Plus, the size is considerably smaller than the K so I imagine that the fitment would be better than the K. An R18A1 can't weigh much more than an L15, so theoretically handling would be better than with a K.

or am I just stupid?

already been discussed a couple times and the conclusion was that the cost to custom fabricate mounts, axles, and other little parts to get the r18 to work in a Fit would cost about the same amount as a k20

I know you're not considering any B-series motors, but a group of Filipino tuners just swapped in a B18C5 engine + transmission + air conditioning into a GD in China last month.

The B18C5 swap did have custom engine mounts done too.

You did say anything but the K

i guess the only benefit could be how the engine sits: the biggest issue with the k is how you have to upgrade the suspension to compensate for how high it sits in the engine bay. (and the l15 already sits high enough.)

an r18 wont add nearly as much power, but enough to keep it entertaining and still keep the handling balance.

granted, you could just do the kraftwerks base kit, and it will put out numbers slightly better than the r18 swap would, with a tad more torque, for cheaper.

Theoretically if there was support for the R you could swap, and then use a supercharger or turbo. Once again theoretically speaking, if one existed for it.

I think the R swap would be a swap worth researching honestly. I just wish I had the resources to do it. Oh well.

honestly, any form of FI on the L15 would be a smarter investment than an r18 swap. at the end of the day you've got a heavier engine with less response than a supercharged/turbocharged L15 and cost almost $5k more

it would take more than one r18 Fit to get any aftermarket support off the ground

I dont understand why people keep making these threads.. K20 or k24 or boosted l15. Any other motor than K-series for swap is pointless. well beside f20c but you'd be insane to do that.

Yeah the R18 swap has been talked about. Go for it! I think it'd be pretty cool. Not as powerful as the K but as you said, I'd imagine it to be lighter as well. So you would basically get the same power as a FI kit on a L15 BUT still have the pleasure of filling up regular 87 =]]]]

f20c is my plan. it only weighs a few pounds more than the L series and has and angle to it so the weight will be set lower than with the L so technically the handling should improve.

im doing my research now. this is an f20c with a k20a transmission bolted to it.

Now that's what I like to hear Kylerwho. I just don't think anyone has the ambition to try something different. The excuses for not trying could be said with any swap that's never been done, including the K a year or two ago. "The fabrication makes it cost too much!" "Not worth the work, just go forced induction" etc.

i already know im going to hear crap from everyone with their little whiny voice saying "its not cost effective or worth it." im doing it cause i want it. to hell with everyone else.

so i have a reputation for doing crazy things huh?

i wont argue with that.

im just not a follower. im ready to embrace the new technology. like running a kawasaki zx-14 dbw ITBs on an f20c.... and now im looking into running boost on an ITB setup.

its easy to boost bikes so a car should be no differance.

i guess the reason most people bring up the money issue is because...

well, its an issue.

lets be honest and say that MOST of the people who drive fits arent ballers who just want to save some gas money. for most of us, b and c segment cars are all that can be afforded. (nothing wrong with that either.)

heck even the k swap to me is a bit outlandish...but again, thats from a money/i like the way my car handles perspective.

k swaps are cool and all, but i'm a fan of hondas for what they are, not just what is feesible with them. (very few guys like me who are still 'in' to hondas)

you know what would make a good candidate for an r swap? the ge8. pass emissions, extra kick, MUCH BETTER mpg than the k, regular fuel. the newer l15 has the same integrated exhaust manifold as the r18. engine bay seems to have more room too.

boost on ITBs shouldnt be hard at all. as long as theyre dbw
