What did you pay for your Honda Care extended warranty?

Hey everyone,
During my recent Honda purchase, I bought a Honda Care extended warranty for the discounted price of $1700. It's good for 6 years PAST the normal warranty and up to 120,000 miles.
I'm considering cancelling it, but before I do, I want to see what others have paid. Thanks

I recently swap my 2009 FIT S for 2011 FIT S

I got a call from HONDA and they wanted to buy back my car my previous FIT S got 45k miles so they swap it with 2011 with the same option plus all the accessories parts. They also gave me a lifetime warranty as long as i own the car not transferrable only good for me as long as i own the car, my monthly is lower 20 dollars lower to be exact with 3 1/2 years to pay which is i owe on my previous car. Dont ask me how i got it they offered it to me. I feel like i hit the jackpot LOL...

BTW: The fit they wanted to buy back was the 1st fit TW with NAVI in the US. not sure why but they want it back so bad so i gave it to them in return i got more than what i wanted. so with lifetime warranty not transferrable... im keeping the car forever. LOL

As far as I'm concerned any extended warranty is nothing more than snake oil. I have never bought one and have yet to regret it. Especially on a vehicle that has one of the highest ratings for quality.

Hey thanks for the input. I stated I'm probably cancelling it.

Anyone who can give input on the original question: What did you pay for your Honda Care extended warranty?

Thx.

I ended up paying $985 for 5 years/ 125,000 miles.

I got the same phone call from my old dealership with an offer to upgrade my '07 for a brand new '11 Fit. Seeing as there was nowhere for them to make any profit on, the finance guy was a complete shark and would not let me leave w/out the extended warranty. Very high sales pressure. But I digress...

Hi Grant,

You don't have to buy your warranty from the dealership that sells you the car. Here is research that I did, and help that I got from forum members--the prices were for 8 yr 100,000 mi because I don't put many miles on my car. You can get your money back from the warranty company and buy a cheaper one. (Same Honda Care warranty) Your price sounds pretty high.

Yes, my $1700 does sound high and that was the 'discounted' price. I've heard people paying in the $900 area. What I plan on doing is calling the dealer and cancelling. If they come down on price to $1000 or less, I'll keep the warranty. If not, I'll go for the full refund.

That's why I'm trying to gauge what people paid.

Anybody else wanna tell what they spent?

If you haven't used any of the honda care services, you can get a refund -- prorated if after 60 days I think. I got my 7yr, 80k $0 deductible warranty from Saccucci Honda online for about $650 + $100 previous cancellation fee for a total of about $750.

Wink

I paid 1330 for 6 years 120k, with no deductable. You could probably get it for around 1050 online. I rolled it into my .9% finance charge, so the difference between putting it on a credit card is not that much.
I know the pros and cons about extended protection plans. I put a lot of miles on my cars and will most likely reach 36k in less than two years. I figure it will add to the resale value if anything.

A couple weeks ago my dealer tried to sell it to me at $1700 as well. I didn't go for it because that sounded awfully high and it's a Honda. Also, it costs ~$2300 for an extended warranty for 2500HD with similar terms. So how can an econo car with MSRP of $18K almost be as much as a truck with a MSRP of $55K that will go through a heck of a lot more abuse? Just didn't make sense.

A couple of weeks after I bought it I cancelled it. That $1000 will go a long way to paying any future repairs if any are needed.

I love the way dealers, of any make, squirm when you ask them why anyone should buy an extended warranty on a supposedly reliable car. They sound like politicians that get caught in a lie.
I paid zero for my “extended warranty” I also passed on the clear bra, paint protection and anything else they wanted to sell me. I’m surprise I bought the car at all. Without all the extras they were trying to sell me, the car was a breakdown waiting to happen….

How long after you purchase it, can you opt to cancel?

I think it's 60 days for full refund, then after that, it's pro-rated.

And you can only cancel if you've never used the HondaCare, including road-side service.

Update:
I have been in contact with the original dealer. I told them I wanted to either cancel the warranty or wanted them to match Saccucci Honda's price. They said that Saccucci's price is well below cost and they'd rather just cancel my plan and give me my money back.
You have 60 days to do this and the refund goes go toward you loan balance.
Thx again for the tips everyone!

Extended Warranty = Scam, in my books.

When I traded in my Titan, they wanted me to purchase the extended warranty and proceeded to scare me into buying it with doom and gloom "hypothetical" situations.

I told them that my Nissan never had an issue in my 4 years of owing it, and that if he felt the Honda was going to break down, I would keep my Nissan as obviously it was a much more reliable vehicle.

That shut him up pretty quick. After that, no other small items were "added".

They also tried to get me for gap insurance.

I paid 600 and some change for mine, good up to 7 years and 100,000.
Only reason I got it was because I had the motor blow on my 03 accord after 7 years and 89,000 miles. out of warranty and SOL. That is the ONLY reason i opted for it this time.

Plus I feel 600 (i think it was like 632) is reasonable for a few years extra on the warranty and they also threw in a 30,000 mile maintence package with it. Not bad in my book.

One more quick update:

I've heard people say that their dealer made them come in to the dealer to sign the paperwork to cancel their Homda Care warranty.

You do not need to do this and is obviously a ploy to make it hard to cancel your warranty. If they try this, call them out on it and let them know that Honda Care customer service stated it's not necessary to do it that way.
