This is a bump...Any word from newer owners?

I'm very worried about this as I should be picking my new car up this week. I will, of course, be bringing this up to the dealer making sure this is brought up before-hand...

I bought my fit a few weeks ago and the back bumper on one side has the paint about to rip off. I put washers on all corners and I'll probably just touchup the one spot. I don't think there is a need to repaint the whole bumper for one little spot.

Angry

I'v had my storm silver fit since oct 06 and Just washed it up today, all I can say is that I'm sick!!! I have never seen so many paint chips on a bumper and hood with a car this new! It makes my stomach turn. My 98 accord didnt have a fraction of the chips that my new fit has.
I also noticed my aluminum wheels (especially the front two) are discolored, they are getting a Yellow tint almost as if when you get metal really hot and it discolors, anyone have this problem? Im going to see the service guy at the dealership where I got the fit. If they dont do something about this I will NEVER buy another honda again! I don't even enjoy washing and waxing it with all that damage

Thanks for the update everyone. This does NOT bode well for me purchasing this car. I've been so excited about it for months now (especially as this is my first brand new car) but I must say I'm now leaning back toward something such as the Versa. To me, this type of problem is unacceptable. Even if they did cover the rear bumper chips under a warranty, it seems they could easily argue against the hood chips that seem to come so easily (as it's normal wear and tear), especially with excessive highway driving.

Plus I just don't feel like I should have to argue something like this. If not now, maybe at 5,000 miles, at 10,000? When could I ever rest easily?

This is a little disappointing to me...especially after all of the research.

And yes, I know the Versa gets far worse mileage and has less cargo space, but The Nissan dealership I went to offered me a LIFETIME powertrain warranty, was more comfortable, and doesn't seem to have this problem.

...what to do.

ok well, a friend of mine ordered a blue Fit but they told me it's been delayed...or something like that, because of A PAINT PROBLEM WITH BLUE HONDA FITS. i haven't heard anything about the other colors. but from reading this thread it sounds like most of you guys with peeling paint own a blue one.
Illusive, if you called/emailed them, you may have done the trick.

o god i should go check mine now....

Bought mine Feb 28th 2007. Paint is peeling from where the front bumper mates up to the fender on the passenger side, just like everyone else. Any fix yet?

Take it back to the dealer and they'll repaint the whole bumper like they did on mine and many others. You'll get a loaner while it's in the shop like everyone else.

Wink Update 2

Decided to get the car anyway, despite the paint problems.

They re-assured me they would take care of the car should anything like that happen to it. I was sure to let them know they would catch the ass end of bitch fest should they let me down.

On a side note, I printed out this thread and brought it to the service supervisor and he said he would pass this info along to his superiors as a heads-up. Of course, he mentioned there was no official bulliten from Honda regarding this problem. We shall see...

All paint problems aside I'm still extremely excited about the car. I changed paint colors about 20 times back and forth but ended up with a Silver Storm Metallic (M/T) - it's at the lot already and I'll be picking it up this thursday. I was worried that if there was still a chance this could happen, the red would show chips much more than the silver. I'm still happy and the color is beautiful.

Hopefully you'll be seeing me much more on this forum

...but hopefully not on this thread

A couple of people I know who work with auto paint at body shops told me this; Becase of all the stringent environmental laws and they keep getting tougher and tougher the new auto paint isn't what it used to be. Paint nowadays is very "weak", so much so you can go up to any new car on the lot and scratch it with a piece of paper.

Interesting thought. Not the first time I've heard this. I don't hear any other complaints about other makes and models with a similar problem though...at least, not to any great extent?

Lightbulb Camper shell tape instead of washers?

Maybe this is a crazy idea but what about using campershell tape (or some other kind of one-sided tape with foam) instead of washers? The foam would compress and be invisible but still prevent the bumper and fender from rubbing. I don't have my fit yet (tomorrow!) but I would imagine the washers would eventually just fall out from road vibrations. Just a thought...

I started to notice that my rear bumper driver side is peeling. I'll wait till the front starts peeling so I dont have to go back for the front. Will that be to late? hahaha... Doh!

Btw my Fit is Taffeta White...
