I am not supposed to wax the bumpers for at least a month while the paint cures.

My eyes can't tell the difference between the new and old paint, so I think they did a good job. They resolved my problem in just a couple days and gave me a free loaner car while they did.

I am satisfied. Good luck to everyone else!

i replaced my headlights with black headlights, i noticed peeling in my front and back bumpers awhile ago. will they void my warranty on the paint because i replaced my headlights due to the fact that you have to take off the bumper to put them on?

i am just worried they are going to say i caused the peeling

i'm seriously confused........ years of the paint problem have now come and gone and honda has not gone back to the drawing board to prevent this from happening in the first place........ so i could only assume the paint peeling/bubbling/globbing doesnt actually happen all that often. but that seems to be nothing more than wishful thinking on my part.

I just washed my fit and noticed that the passenger side corner had a little chip. I took the bumper out a bit and noticed that there was some wrinkled paint near the edge. The other 3 corners were fine. I touched it up and bought some really thin washers. It looks good...there is a gap now where I can stick my finger nail in the gap.

My only concern now is that I used stainless steel washers. Should I search for aluminum or plastic washers?? (Since stainless steel is harder.) Thanks FF!

Told my dad and he thinks that I should look for some nylon bushings or plastic washers. He didnt really like the idea on putting something metal against any of the metal panels of the car.

Not to bring a thread from the dead, but I noticed this recently, and I plan to get it fixed.

Asking everyone, how did you guys talk to the dealers about this issue? and that it could be covered under warranty?
My car is a 2007 tafetta, is it still possible to get this done?

Talk to the service manager and alert them of the problem. I alerted my service rep that I knew of the service bulletin released by Honda that recognizes this problem as their issue and how to resolve it. I believe the location of the service bulletin is somewhere in this thread. Ultimately it comes down to what the Honda rep says after looking at the car. They approved my bumper respray, but not the other paint issues that I had.

I did end up replacing the metal washers with some plastic ones.

3 corners were still good. The corner on the front passenger side was chipped and was just beginning to peel. I used my fingernail to remove the very small amount of wrinkled paint...then touched it up.

Almost 2 months later...it is still looking good! All 4 corners have enough of a gap where I can put my fingernail in.

My new manual sport that I bought in June got bumped in the rear by a colleague backing out (and not looking, probably on her cell). It was so upsetting to had a big scratch and several other scrapes and chips that I got it fixed. (Not cheap, they have to repaint the entire bumper). Just last weekend I came back from a trip on a rough but definitely 2WD road in Colorado and discovered that the entire bottom of the front bumper is scraped. My fault, but I feel like I should be able to drive on any 2WD roads, right? Plus I have some really slight marks on the rear bumper again probably from putting my bike in. After reading these posts it sounds like maybe this is something the dealer should fix for free? Maybe it's because I've never had a brand new car before and I love it so I car so much. Anyone else had success getting the dealer to repair bumper damage?

I had the problem of peeling paint in the seam of the front bumper. Took it back to Honda and I have an appointment this Monday for a total repair which is covered under warranty. The dealership has been great about the problem and told me there was a bullentin on the issue and it would be covered. They will take off the bumper, sand it, repaint it and then apply another top clear coat. They will have the car for 2 days which is not going to be fun but I am happy to have it reapaired plus I get the rock ding that I got a month ago repaired at the same time.

This is what it looks like:

Will post up some pictures as soon as the car is back home. I am glad to get it fixed in time for the local import show in September.

I didn't have any problems, but I didn't have anything done to my car except tires and rims. I would think the paint warranty should cover the peeling no matter what you have done.

how do you bring this up to a service manager? just tell them that there was a TSB on this, and that they should repaint my bumpers?

I just took the car in and the service manager looked at the seam which was peeling and he actually peeled more of the paint off looking at it. He told me it would be covered under warranty and he sent me over to the body shop to schedule the appointment. They had the car for two days, removed the bumper, sanded, painted and put it back on. It looks great and they did a super job on the bumper. I had a few rock chips which they fixed at the same time. Honda is aware that some Fits, not all of them have this problem. If I would have had to pay for the repairs it would have cost me ove $300.00.

They have to sand and paint your entire bumper for it to look right. They remove the entire bumper to sand and paint. They did a great job on mine and it looks to be a perfect match. Yes, getting the rock chips repaired at the same time was a nice thing!
