and righht as i enter onto the hwy, my gas light filler indicator came on (it was about 1 mm away from pointing to "E"mpty)..
i remembered reading somewere in the manual/these boards that there's a 5L reserve tank, and i figure, i can go 100 km-ish safetly (honda says ~5.8 L/100km hwy)
so i was feel adventurous and i said meh, lets ride all the way back the whole 100km with this light on.. drove 80km/h ~ 100 km/h in the right hand lane all the way back home...
and i actually made it back to my regular fuel station and filled it up to the top ... the pump read 37.225 L filled in..
so my question is, if the tank is 41 L in size, the that means, gas indicator light came on at about 10 L left in the tank??
is that normal? gas indicator light coming on when 1/4 tank is left?
is there actually a reserve tank?
does it mean the gas meter is using a scale of ~31 L tank ?
so the halfway checkpoint on it isn't 20.5 L but actually 15.5 L ?

I've noticed the few times I've let the tank get low enough that there is 1.5ish gallons left in the tank. I have a USDM Fit so not sure if that helps you. Normally if I drive it till the light comes on I fill it as soon as I'm near to any of the several fill stations I use. However if Gas prices seem to be falling or rising I may fill early if I think it's going up soon and the current price is "better" than say a few days prior.
I don't have a Fit yet, but it seems to me the tanks on all the cars I have owned recently must be shaped like a wine glass, because the second half of the tank goes a lot faster than the first half.
I think the only way to know for sure how much is left when the light comes on is to throw a can of gas in the car, and drive it until it runs out.

Here is a good example- Today on the way home from work I was pulling into a gas station when the gas light came on. I was able to put 33 liters in. so that mean their was 8 liters left. Now I was at about 490 km on my trip meter at that point. So if a remember my grade 6 math, I could go about roughly 118 km if I travel about the same speed.
The gas meter really make you think your getting poor gas mileage, but when you crunch the numbers it is about were it should be.
75miles?! Thats a lot.... You said 9 gallons to fill up when the light comes on... then that means theres about 1 1/2 gallons left in the car. so that would give it only 40-50miles MAX. hmm.. Anyone else have input on this?

Yes, the light comes on after about 9 us gallons, so there are 1½ to 1¾ gallons left. Best case: light highway, 45mpg × 1¾ gallons = 125 miles. Worst case: dense city, 20mpg × 1½ gallons = 30 miles; fortunately, cities often contain gas stations.
alright sounds good.. I'm SURE I will hit a gas station within 10-20 miles. hehe.. I just didn't want to worry about getting stranded somewhere with no gas..(NOT a good feeling)

When my gas light comes on and I fill it up within maybe 10-20 miles, I'll most of the time only need about 8.5 gallons. It usually comes on around 270 on the trip meter.
