Should I keep my cheap speakers for my Fit?

As I prepare for my 2015 Fit purchase, I'm making sure I have all my ducks in a row. I've read some posts about the stock speakers in the fit being 4 ohm and moderately low wattage. Would I be better off if I pulled the cheap (~$30 Amazon.com price) JVC speakers, 4 inch front and 6.5 inch rear, from my Corolla? They're nothing special, just the cheapies replacement speakers I could find this summer when the previous speakers weren't doing so well.

Also, is there a non-invasive way to install an amp power cable, unused grommets or something?

Factory speaker replacement cost

Looked up in the factory parts catalogue out of curiosity & guess what? The cost of replacing the front door speaker is $12.48...($12.48 !!!) What does that tell you?

That tells me that they are really cheap. I remember when I was checking something inside our Forester door and it came with "Premium Sound." I was surprised to find that the front drivers, although they were 6.5 inch speakers (I think) they were extremely lightweight. If I'm not mistaken, I still have the previous speakers laying around. They will probably go back in before trading.

I recently replaced my Civic's speakers with $50/pr Pioneers. They really aren't any better than the factory speakers. I traded more treble for less bass plus they were a hassle to put in because of the crappy adapters Crutchfield sent. You get what you pay for. I think you have to spend $100+/pr to get decent speakers.

I drove my Fit home yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at how good the speakers are. I think the big difference is the front speakers are 6.5" and I've been used to having 4" speakers. I don't feel like there is an immediate need to install my subwoofer in the trunk. :-)

After getting used to the speakers, I find myself wanting more from them. My biggest disappointment is that I feel like I have a good pair of headphones on as I hear sound from the left and right. Is there any way to feel like I'm in the center of a room with speakers pointed at me? My Corolla had 2 speakers in the front doors and 2 speakers above/behind the back sears (sedan). I think that's what the Fit is lacking for really filling the car with sound. Any recommendations? At some point I'll be putting my subwoofer in the trunk, and I'm thinking about adding a pair of speakers to sit on top of it, and maybe just disconnect the rear door speakers. Any thoughts?

No way would I waste my time with a subwoofer or adding more power to my 2007 Sport sound system, I can already see the rearview vibrate when the volume is up loud enough, that's enough bass for me. Especially since I come back from the days where a manufacturer's idea of a sound system was a AM radio.

Depending on how much you're wanting to put into it. To get the "center of the room" feel, you may want to look into a DSP with signal delay tuning. I replaced my front doors with Polk db651s, and the mids and highs are great, but the have no lows at all. I'll be putting regular db651 in the rear in the next couple weeks, followed by an EQS and pbr300x4. This should have some awesome clarity, and seperate amp and shallow sub will be later.

My sub can be pretty powerful, but I don't usually like running it hot, cause then I don't hear anything else. Thanks for the dsp suggestion, I didn't even think that would be something in car audio. I think the spread between front and rear speakers is too close, but I don't know what else could be done besides putting speakers in the rear pillar arms. I don't remember where the were in our Forester.

If you didn't mind losing some storage with the back, you could disconnect the 6.5's in the rear doors and make a cargo cover and mount 6x9's in it. Some of them have a pretty good full range. My big thing is trying to add all mine without forfeiting any of the storage space. It's getting a little tricky planning for the additional pbr300x1 and P3SD2-8.

Wouldn't you need to upgrade the head unit too not just the speakers, since a different head unit could provide more power to better power the new speakers?

i donno. for the most part the stock GK stereo sounds 'ok'. nothing spectacular but it does fine for a econo car imho. i would just leave it alone.

Instead of upgrading the head unit, you can add a secondary amp for more power. See my sig for details.
