Capacity for two dogs?
Hello all...
I'm seriously considering purchasing a used Fit but the first requirement is enough room for my two 75-lb dogs. I don't know anyone with a Fit I can test this out with and didn't see any at local Honda dealership.
I currently have a Hyundai Santa fe, which has a max. cargo volume of 77 cubic ft. and with the rear seats folded down there's ample room. I've read the Fit has max cargo vol. of 57 cubic ft. and my problem is I can't visualize the difference. Anyone out there have two dogs able to fit nicely?
thank you very much!!!!!!!!

I agree that there will be sufficient room with the back seats down. The cargo space "floor" is approximately 3 1/2 feet wide and 5 feet long. I don't think you'll be able to carry the two dogs and more than two people simultaneously.

I have a 2015 and two 75-80 pound dogs. For short trips they ride behind the front seats with the back seats up in "tall mode". (Easier to keep clean, I think.) There is easily enough room in the cargo area with seats down.

Capacity for 2 dogs!
This is just what I was looking for, I have 3 dogs, about 50 pounds and I think this will work perfectly. Now I need the Elemmat to come out for the 2015 model.
Thank you, I am so happy I found this threat!

I drive a 2013 and since the OP is considering a used model I thought my experience might be applicable.

I just did 1,000+ miles over 2 days with my single 50lbs. dog in the back with the seats down.
In my previous vehicle (Wrangler 4 door) there was more space for my additional cargo and I would let the dog ride uncaged.
In the 2015 Fit, less overall space had we worried of stuff falling over on the dog or pinning it against the door or something. So this time I had it in a kennel.
Two things I learned.
1. Kenneling cuts way down on the mess. A lot less dog hair spread around and no scratches or slobber all over the doors and windows.
2. I could fit 2 kennels side by side back there (I have 2 dogs about the same size), but not much else.
Two 75lbs. dog would fit riding loose. I don't think they would fit riding in kennels. If they do it is going to be tight.
All I did was put down a blanket. At the end of the trip, I folded it up to keep all the dog hair in it and shook it outside of the car. I also have the rear cargo tray and slid it inbetween the front seats and the folded down back seats tops, kind of like a barrier. Clean up took literally 5 minutes.

My only concern with putting the seats down is that they just sit right at the back of front seats :/ I stuff my husky and chihuahua in the rear with the seats up. I need something to cover the back of my rear seats. Does elemat sell anything like that?

4 dogs in a Fit
We have a 2010 Fit Sport and 4 dogs (a golden retriever, a Norwegian elkhound and 2 chow chows. All 4 have ridden in the back of our Fit with the seats down flat. Get some pretty amazing looks on the highway though.
If you want to use dog crates or doggie seat belts I do not believe it will work for you. I can get one large crate in with the seats down and it is pretty tight with 3 dogs on the back seat, with the 4th getting the area behind the seat. With the seats flat they should have plenty of room. Saw a car review on TV on the Fit-the reviewer stated that the Fit has more room in the back than most SUV's.

- Cheaper. Doggie chews through it, no problem.
- Traps hair better, so it's not blowing around everywhere
- Can easily customize it to fit whatever you need
- Better grip for the dogs

Two 75 lb dogs fit nicely in a Fit with rear seats down, even better with the rears removed so there's nice room for bed pads .
Keep in mind that with as room as the Fit has for dogs they are in SEVERE danger in the event that you brake hard. Worse if you crash.
so decide on a restraint system for your dogs. There is a lady with two big dogs and has an excellent 'safety belt' for her dogs. They have ample freedom to move around but will be restrained by a full body corset with the safety belt pickup that we enjoy. don't know where it came from but ought to be found on ebay.
ps thats how I know the Fit will nicely accommodate two big dogs.
she has a wonderful story about being confronted in Charlotte one night by two characters who ran up to her car at a stoplight. Her dogs both got heads out the windows and 'welcomed' the approachers. One actually got hurt scrambling away. she now has a sign in the rear window "big dogs on board, please don't feed".
