I became "that guy" yesterday

My wife and niece needed to pick up a couple of beds yesterday, so my wife kindly volunteered (unbeknownst to me) to trade vehicles (MY FIT!) for the day with her friend so we could use the truck to carry everything! Now mind you, I don't like to lend out my car and I know this woman's driving (in)ability.

Then I got smart. I knew my wife's friend's work schedule, so I told my wife I wouldn't be able to help and swap vehicles until "later". Later meaning that she'll be at work and won't be needing to drive my Fit! The bottom line is we used the truck and my car remained parked!

But anyways. After picking up the 2 beds, I thought the nice thing to do would be to fill up her tank and since she already had 1/4 of a tank and with the low gas prices, I figured I could fill her up on $25-$35. WRONG!

I STOPPED at $40 and it only brought me up to 3/4 of a tank! So essentially it costs $80 to fill up even with today's prices?! F*** that!

Love my Fit!

Yep I'm with you. Have had lots of vehicles never a half ton truck. Finally got one back in 08, shortly there after gas skyrocked. Cost me 80 to fill up. Got a second vehicle and only drove it on occasion. Now have my Fit which I love, gas here is 2.14 now. I feel like I'm filling up a motorcycle now. Lol.

Meanwhile, a 5x8 trailer is bigger than most full size pickups, easier to load and unload- and only costs as much as a few tanks of gas for the pickup. You know, money the Fit is saving for you.

Love it, love it, love it.

I agree. I've got the Fit for mileage and the trailer for hauling things. I had a Mega-cab Dodge P-up before the Fit and I don't miss it for a minute. Funny enough, I have to fill up about the same time as I did with the Dodge, only I fill up with $25.00 instead of $100.

Yeah, gas is expensive and many trucks have (and need) big tanks to feed them, particularly in comparison to the thimble-sized one the Fit has. For many hauling tasks a trailer does make a lot of sense.

My other vehicle has a 55 gallon gas tank and gets something like 8 or 10 mpg. It also carries a couple of beds all the time, as well as a sofa and the kitchen sink and so forth. Filling that tank can be a painful process, at least at the moment. It usually involves having to reswipe the card at the pump once or twice since most around here have a $75 or so limit.

Fortunately, I only had to do multiple swipes a few times when gas peaked. Most of the places around here have a $100 single swipe limit. I usually hit between $90 and $100.

Even towing our little popup camper with our van, I still get around 16 MPG. Of course the truck towed it better, but I still don't miss it even for that.
