Ways to optimize storage?

Switching over from a Toyota Matrix to my Fit, I now realize I'm going from four or so hidden compartments and high seat bottoms, to just about nada. I've been carrying emergency supplies and tools under my seats and under my cargo boards for years, now I'm simply stumped as where to put them as the front seats are barely inches of clearance off the floor, and there's no organized compartments. I can't even find a way to fit my small handgun safe under the passenger seat, it's very thin but won't fit under it. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to make the most of this small car?

This organizer from etrailer looked interesting. As far as hidden storage, the 2nd gens had a compartment under the rear seat. Don't know about the the other generations though.

My progress so far:

Found a large nylon binder full of pockets, that's now full of trinkets and in the map pocket behind the passenger seat.

Hooked some nylon bags under the back seats, strapped some bungee cords across the center gap to secure some clothing and soft items.

Ordering a sun visor organizer covered in straps for random objects.

This is more on the subject of hatch storage, but I just purchased the WeatherTech CargoTech and was pleasantly surprised at just how much use I'm able to get out of it. Our local Pep Boys had it priced at $39.99 and were running a 25% off deal, so it came to just under $30.

It comes with four "corners", and the underside is pretty grippy even on carpet (I haven't ordered the WT cargo liner yet). You can also use two of them to pin things to the back of the back seat, and one if you need to hold something in a corner.

The upside... you can use a few straws and have an Orange Julius when you get home cleaning up the weathertech cargo liner.

I'm sure you'll be more realistic in packing.
