Roof rack box on fit?

Does anyone use something like a Yakima Skybox on their Fit? I'm wondering how the Fit handles the load, and what sizes you are using.
Thanks for input!

I think you would be fine.

I've seen plenty of Fits with some sort of roof luggage. This picture is actually the exact roof cargo option you mentioned and no one has complained about it. That was a link to his blog.

I've seen cars like the Fit loaded with a roof rack and a hitch with a small trailer. You can definitely get some work done with these things. I'm nearly positive the Fit makes just as much power as my dad's old 2 door Dodge Dakota sport 4-cylinder and we towed a boat with it.

Towing is about tow vehicle mass, not engine power.

But yeah, I've got a hitch.

That Dakota weighed about 3,000 lbs and made 120 hp at the flywheel. It was a piece! I'm dragging this off topic.

The roof rack should work fine!

I've towed surf boards, kayaks and Christmas trees on top of cars over the years. My suggestion is quality straps. I wrap the strap around my rack and around whatever I'm towing and strap it to itself. Then I ratchet it down tight. I also like to throw a strap over it from the nose to the rear. I just use the tow points and ratchet it down usually.

I don't have a roof rack on my Fit yet but I have had racks on my Subaru and Altima. I used duct tape to consolidate the all the cargo into one piece and then I would use multiple bungee cords to hold the cargo in place.

Depending upon the configuration of your boxes, I would consider using cargo nets. Amazon.com: Cargo Nets & Tailgate Nets - Truck Bed & Tailgate Accessories: Automotive: Cargo Nets, Tailgate Nets & More

Thanks for the tip. I wasn't planning on using the toe hooks. is there like a roping/strapping pattern i should follow if not using the toe hooks?

thanks, that's a good idea to duct tape boxes together before strapping it down.
