Using an arc welder on your car??
Hey guys, this is a pretty dense question, but here it goes anyway. I'm putting together a safari rack for my Fit to snap in place on my existing, custom, Yakima towers. I'm finding it a little difficult to mock everything up while it's off the car. If I were to remove my battery, would I be able to use an arc welder on my Fit without compromising other electronics? I only need to tack the welds in place. I've welded on cars and trucks before, but nothing with as many electronics as my Fit. Much thanks!

I usually tape the battery cables together (Off the battery) to ground both sides of the electronics, and usually unplug the ECU connector.
Also use a second ground cable so that both pieces of metal are on the welder ground directly, never let the car carry the energy.
Example: two pieces of tubing to butt weld together, clip the welder ground on 1 piece, clip car jumper cable to the welder ground clamp and clip the other end of the jumper to the other piece of tube.. That way no matter how the arc started its got a straight path tto the welder..
Sparcs will burn though the paint..
