Upgraded Transmissions in Japanese Fits?
My wife took in her 2015 Honda Fit EX to complain of the poorer mpg her Mexican built Fit was having compared to my 2016 Japanese built Fit EX(37.1 versus 42.6 mpg) and to my shock the service manager confirmed what I suspected. The Japanese built Fits built in Japan have a upgraded CVT transmission which gives it better mpg and apparently accounts for the smoother take off and extra torque my 2016 Fit has. I told her to have the service manager write down exactly what was upgraded but she didn't get him to do that. Does anyone know anything on this?

Transmission (CVT) part numbers in the Honda catalog appear to be the exact same for 15 and 16.
Differing driving habits would more likely account for the fuel economy differences, along with differences in tires.... and possibly some software differences.

Yes, it differs significantly and I cannot account for it except for the way the transmission shifts and difference in the smooth power transfer compared to mine.

That is what I suspect, as when I took mine off the dealer lot, I was getting 45-46 mpg driving it home with much quicker take off and power than the 2015. At first I thought I was just lucky and got a exceptional car, but there was too much of difference and the characteristics made me suspect there was a firmware or hardware change which is not unheard of for the Japanese market, but normally they don't export those.

I've got a 2015 and I've been getting consistently low to mid 40 MPG numbers since day one. Looking at my MPG spreadsheet, the first tank was 41.7 MPG then it was in the high 30s as I was having fun with a new car. It's funny looking at it, the MPG got better the longer I owned it. I'm sure I learned the quirks and how to better hypermile it during my commute. Last week I turned in my personal best 47.074 MPG after I found a new route that eliminated a bunch of stop lights. The CVT recall did not affect my gas mileage either.

That's how I calculate mine as the onboard computer's numbers are too optimistic. That's the case I've found with my previous vehicles who had that option too. Onboard computer was always a bit more optimistic versus calculating it by hand.

I will do that and then report back to see what the variance is....currently my average is at 43 mpg and on the hwy Ive been getting over 52 mpg..If only they would build the hwy from my front door to my job. Oh well...
