Window tint needed in Calgary - where?

Hi all,

Looking at a full rear and side window tint for my '08 Sport. Also wanting an upper banner tint on the front windshield. Anyone had good experiences with glass shops in Calgary? What is the maximum tint we are allowed in Alberta?

Cheers, KK

Best place is still Shadow Tint. I don't think there is a maximum for the rear windows, but you are not allowed any tint on your front windows.

I forgot the name of the place I went to.. it was in the NE beside the toyota/lexus dealership just off 32nd ave. I got all 7 windows tinted, the back 3 can be as dark as you want. I have my front windows and the little a-pillar ones done in a light tint. Had no problems with mine.

Damien @ Icon Auto is also a great place to go. I've used him on all my cars and the price is right. His shop is in the NE as well. and i went with medium tint all the way around and have had zero problems with the law, mind you i don't drive like an ass to stand out from the crowd either.

I have read of cars tinted in California, the front driver/passenger windows cannot be tinted at all. Some say they drive with the windows down, this way no cop can cut them a ticket. Would prove to be a breezy solution here in Calgary. Breezy and serious windchill. Might catch a few stones as well, Deerfoot and all. Am I the only one who refuses to drive the road? I am reminded of a bad C.H.I.P.S. episode each time I am a passenger, certain to be a turned over chicken truck up ahead.

That's the place I went to! Icon Auto. I went Dark in the back 3, and light in the front 4. Got my new wheels!

Thanks for the pic lead, I guess your example is as dark as I can go without having the threat of a ticket and removal of the illegal dr/pass window tint. There are a ton of cars around Calgary with really dark windows, I suspect they are running a risk. I will swing by Auto Icon and Shadow Tint for a quote.

Cheers, KK

I had mine done through Honda West which I assume would be outsourced somewhere. JDMish would know. I had a light tint on my front windows and the full limo tint on the back three. It took a little getting use to because it's really dark and in a dim parking lot, it took awhile. Having a larger rear view mirror helps.

I had my Fit in for some Honda warranty work at West. They took great care of us, we even got a rental for $20 for the day. Shite part was the ticket in the mail two weeks later, seems I was racing through a yellow/red light at the top speed of 38km/hr in a 50 zone. Speed demon am I, there goes $250....some deal on the rental from this view. I stop at green lights now and prep for a rear-ender.

The rental car had a full tint, real nice driving it. It was an automatic.....not for me. Left it in D most of the time. Glad I have a 5 speed.

Honda West has been the best of the three dealers I have experienced in Calgary.

Dust;

Anybody any opinions on Tint Illusions? Tinting Illusions - Calgary's Premier Tinting & Paint Protection Studio
I've been researching ceramic tint, and they do Huper Optik. Nearest Formula One tint is in Edmonton I might go for one of the metallic films.

canadakid is an unknown quantity at this point
I ended up going to Tinting Illusions, Jarad the manager there was terrific. The final cost was about $150 less than the other name shops in town and it was a three hour job. Real fast and after one week the quality has remained first rate.

I went through .beyond.ca and got a discount of 15% on the job, just mention that web site and a deal is included. Will post photos once the snow in June passes and I get a clean car again.

I had a tint done on my 08 Fit last week, great job and price as well. I looked at the Huper Optik and it will look great on your car, mention .beyond.ca and you should get a discount from Jarad the manager at T.I.

I had a look through the last couple of posts, nothing offensive or vulgar? Maybe ask on the admin's forum
