I understand that we have a very small size battery, but my fit's battery drain after 3-4 hours of dome light usage ~ nothing else is on... Is it normal? Interior lights still work but don't have enough juice to start the engine... it happens to me twice already....

you should start the engine and idle for sometime and turn it off again. Just turning on the dome light or listening to the radio will drain the battery. So once in a while just start your engine and idle for a bit so the battery charge then turn the ignition off.
Just my 2 cents
Thanks... That I understand! I supposed regular driving will also charge the battery to almost full level. But what worries me is a 3-4 hrs of dome light usage (no radio, no dash light) can drain the battery from full charge (well, from regular driving) to nearly empty which I need to jump start the car afterward. Just wonder if there is something wrong with my battery or is it normal. Other fitters.... Please let me know~!
P.S. Anyway, I will replaced all those domo light bulbs to lcds.... brighter and consume lessor power...

My stock battery died when I left the radio on for my wife as I ran back to the house to get something I forgot... about 4 minutes max. Then it died again when I did the same at a 711 about two weeks later. I took it to the dealer and they said it had a bad cell, it was under warranty still so they replaced it for free. I sat at the dealer for 10 minutes listening to the radio with the engine off just to be sure that fixed the problem and it did.
If you're not under warranty anymore, most auto parts stores (here in Southern Cali at least) will check your battery for free.
Thanks for the advices... I did let my car idle for an hour + to let the battery charges. The car has about 700 kms and I had already jumped start it 3 times due to dome light usage. The car defintely won't start if the dome light is on over night. I guess I will see how the battery performs over the winter before taking it to the dealer and ask for a replacement
That shouldn't happen Eric. You have either a bad battery (under warranty) or a electrical charging issue (either a faulty alternator or voltage regulator problem). Either case you are under warranty and should bring it to the attention of your Honda dealer soonest possible.
BTW, idling the car does not and will not bring a drained battery to a complete charge. Driving it for a while may, but definitely not idling the engine.
Best you invest some money on a good battery charger. Helps keep your battery charged when you don't use your car often enough. I have 2 battery chargers; one for the cars and the other for my motorcycles.
They help keep my batteries charged especially during the winter months.
Is that right? I will try to make longer trip and see how the battery performs... I will report back once I have taken it to the dealer. Thanks everyone for your comments.
The battery lasted a week before problems start. Today, the dealer replaced the battery. Seems like there are dead cells in the battery. Another friend told me that it is comment that the battery goes bad in the fit... oh well.. at least it is under warrenty...
HaHa Ricky. As you know, my wife stall the car in the middle of the road ~ "new manual driver". Then she couldn't start it cuz the battery was dead. Since the battery was acting up before, lucky that we had an extra battery that can jump start it. However, she was pretty scared that she had to jump start it in the middle of high speed road. Anyway, everything is taken care off. Thanks for the help!
Guinness: blah.... you are running a head unit with you screens + amp. You lucky to have 2 hrs of audio power with the fit battery. Don't complain!
I am starting to think that some of the stock OEM batteries for the 2009 Fit are just plain bad. Mine too is bad. 3 days in a row I have had to get the battery jumped and I only got my Fit a week ago...never left any lights or radio on. I took it to the dealer and asked for a new battery and he said they ran a comupter check on the electrical system and it was fine but the computer said to charge the battery. So he charged it and the next morning the battery was dead again. He claims that he can only do what the computer tells them. I would think since the car is 1 week old and all the parts are convered under warrantee that they could just give me a new battery. But he said he won't get reimbursed if he doesn't do what the computer says. Very confusing. So in the meantime, I have to go to the dealer again. Gets kinda tiring to go back and forth when I know what the issue is. Don't they want to make the customer happy so they keep coming back for service and when they are ready for a new car? Anyway, has anyone heard if there is a recall on the batteries for the 2009 Fit?
Car was 5 days old: my battery die after 3-4 hours of dome light usage
6-7 days old: battery die after the car has been parked for a few hours "battery usage due to the factory alarm"
8 days later... Game over!!! needs a jump start each time...
My wife dropped the car off @ Richmond Honda. We picked the car up after hour and received a recept saying that the battery was replaced due to bad cell. I hope leonardo you get your new battery soon... good luck!
Thanks Eric! I hope so too. If they don't replace it on Monday for me then I will have to get service at a different Honda dealer but hopefully they will do it since they are only 4 miles away from me..lol Thanks so much!
For about $50 at Wally World, you can get a group 51R battery (drop in replacement). You'll have a better, more powerful battery. You'll also be less likely to have a battery failure on a road trip. I never had a battery problem and as soon as my battery got to 3yrs. (out of warranty), I replaced it. I know it's hard to spend money on a new car, but the Fit's OEM battery is crap. Leonardo10, I would try to talk the sales manager into buying you a Wally World battery and be done with it.

Hi Spreadhead, thanks for the advice. Do you recommend that Wally's battery over the Costco Kirkland 51R? I think Wally one you mentioned is stronger (500 CCA) and the Costco brand is 410 CCA...the same as the OEM battery. I heard the Costco one was about $35? Or is it the case of, you get what you pay for? Thanks!
