March 25th will be a run off event in the morning where the top five drivers in each class can participate to determine a champion in each class for the season. Then in the afternoon it's fun run time.
In the morning championship runoffs for the top in each class then in the afternoon fun runs open to the first 60 drivers that sign up from about 1130am.
April 8 starts a new season for 2007-2008.
I still haven't ever seen a Fit at autocross but I have seen three in one day on the roads. More on the way.
Well, we've finished our season in autocross yesterday with a bang.
We probably had the nicest course layout since we started- nice mix of tight turns and straighaways.
In two weeks we will start the 2007-2008 season on April 8th.
Feel free to drop by and watch or sign up that morning and drive in the afternoon.
We need more Honda Fits. Lots of modified imports out there in Street Touring classes.
SCCA has added some autocross dates and some practice test and tune dates for two saturdays preceeding the sunday autocross.
Confirmed SCCA dates for 2007
4/8
7/1
7/21 test and tune
7/22
8/5
8/18 test and tune
8/19
9/9* changed from earlier 9/2
10/14*
11/25*
12/16
7/1 is the next date for autocross.
Right now the site is being used for 50th state fair.
7/21 and 8/18 are special non official dates.
It's a chance to do some tuning for your car and run in autocross for fun or practice and we'll have instructors to assist. We want you to learn as much as possible, then the following days 7/22 and 8/18 you can try the official event and compete.
Since I'll be going to each event I get to autocross 6 times in about 6 to 7 weeks. Good thing I have 5 sets of tires.
Hope to see some Fits there soon- never had one show up to visit or to drive. Bet it would draw a crowd.
This sunday is the next autocross and sign up was last saturday from about 9am. Pre-registration is now closed so if you want to drive show up before 7am at Aloha Stadium lower parking lot gate.
Hope to see our FIRST Fit this weekend. And if you want to have NO pressure when driving then try one of our two summer autocross school dates for saturdays in July and in August.
Next event is Test and tune on saturday July 21 all day training and instruction. Followed by normal autocross event on sunday July 22nd.
Signups for July 21 now for $40 each driver. and $28 each for non SCCA members for July 22.
Saturday you get to drive all day and work as volunteer for one hour.
Sunday you get to drive four officially timed runs in your class and might drive at the end of the day in funruns for $1 each run if time permits.
You get much more seat time driving AND you get instruction all day if you want on the saturday event. Most drivers will get instruction in the morning and be free to try things out for the rest of the day.
Tomorrow is the autocross. We will be there all day from before 7am to about 4pm. Drop by for a look see. It's free but costs $1 to park in the lot next door at the flea market.
If you want to just drive and not compete we do have a full test and instruction day on Feb 16th. The following day is regular event.
You can bring any car except SUV or Minivan and drive. Shoes and helmet (rental possible) required. Full driver's license and consent paper signed by both parents if driver is under 18.
Feb 16th is test and tune instruction day- fullday practice with instruction.
Then runoff event on March 30th (half day for championship then funruns for half a day)
New season starts April 13.
-------------------------------
New requirement from SCCA National…effective with the January, 2008 events, all drivers MUST be a SCCA member. If the driver is not a member, s/he can purchase a “weekend” membership for $15. The “weekend” membership is good for any five consecutive-day periods. There is also paper work involved for this “weekend” membership (application is in triplicate, online application is also available) and $5 of the $15 goes to National. Drivers can apply the $15 “weekend” membership fee for a discount on their regular SCCA membership application. We are still reviewing/learning all the details. With this new requirement, we will change the entry fee to $25 for members and $40 for non-members ($25 + $15 “weekend” membership fee) beginning with the 1/20/08 event. Drivers for the Test & Tune will also need to be a member. Will keep you posted as we finalize the process.
Changes to Entry Fees for the January race!
$25 – members
$40 – non-members ($25 for event, $15 for weekend SCCA membership)
Current season ends in two more regular events
Jan 20. Sunday
Feb 16 (test and tune day, all day instruction and practice day)
Feb 17 Sunday
Then runoff in March 30, 2008 (half day championship then half day practice session)
New season for 2008-2009 starts in April 13, 2008
For next event this sunday
Race #11 - January 20
Heat 1: All Street Prepared, EM
Heat 2: All Street Modified, DM
Heat 3: All Street Touring, Prepared
Heat 4: All Stock
then
Race #12 - February 17
Heat 1: All Street Modified, DM
Heat 2: All Street Touring, Prepared
Heat 3: All Stock
Heat 4: All Street Prepared, EM
All novice drivers should plan to drive in heat 3 or 4. New drivers cannot preregister. You can register at 7am for any heat and it is first come first served so if 30 drivers sign up in the morning then there will be few registrations allowed at 1130am for the afternoon heats unless drivers that have pre-registered do not show up at lunchtime. Then their spots will be given away to those that want to do on site registration.
Instructors are available and encouraged for all novice drivers. Instuctors will not be readily available in the morning since they must have finished their official runs in heat 1 or 2 to be able to instruct a novice driver. You can have an instructor only for the first event you attend and for any or all of the four runs that you do that event. Instructors are also available during funruns at the end of the day or at Test and tune practice days (Feb 16).
We will be there all day from 6am to 4pm. If you stop by let the gate person know to call me (Brad) so I can get you in for the pit and grid areas. Otherwise you can watch from the outer spectator area for free.
Sunday is the real autocross event. Hoping to run R compound tires that day.
I got to drive the Fit Sport AT with stock wheels and tires in the morning and with 15x7 rims and Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R 195/50-15 tires in the afternoon.
The RE-01Rs are great tires and highly complement the Fit Sport.
I think if you want good handling and just want to change tires only the RE-01Rs in that size and price ($104 each from tirerack.com) are a good start. No real need for suspension or brake upgrades.
What I did notice is a lack of power with the AT. First gear is too low and 2nd is too tall for any performance driving under 40 mph.
Tomorrow is the real event and will be running Kumho V710 205/50-15 R compound tires.
