I was told be my dealership that you cant really order a car and have it built specificly for you by the factory. They basicly have to sift through the incoming cars and their allocation of incoming cars and try to find what you want within their area or other local states.

AFAIK, this is true, and similar to what my dealership told me. If you have an exact model/color/trans that you want, you need to be prepared to wait for it, especially for base ones - it seems that most of the Fits coming in are Sports - if you're picky like me, and have a working car now, it's worth the wait.
One other thing: I'm not sure about the Base, but the white Sport comes with a choice of either a beige or black interior. There was a thread a while ago about a guy who ordered w/black but got beige instead and didn't take the car because of it (I would have done the same). If you have the choice and it's important to you, be sure to specify this clearly when you order. When I was looking, the dealers seemed much more tuned into exterior colors of incoming cars than interior ones.
