$2000 deposit in June, still waiting
I put a $2000 deposit on june 18 for a fit sport M/T, top choice black, or red. I wanted to order and the sales idiot said it would be quicker to locate an existing one. He called yesterday and said there is a manual sport in at the end of the month but its silver, i am gonna take it cause im sick of waiting but honda is gonna lose a lot of business treating people like $#!holes. If he would have listened to me and order it id have it by now.

Not necessarily. I ordered mine on June 6th, and I'm still waiting. Not even any indication yet whether or not it will show up in the next 2 months. Unless your dealer gets a large number of Fits each month, the chance of them being able to get your desired car in any given month is not very good. It happens, but more often than not, you'll wait a couple months.

In the future, never put a deposit down on a car that's bigger than you are willing to walk away from. If you put down $2000, the dealer has you by the balls.
When we signed a deal for a Fit, I put down $200, despite the fact that the dealer was demanding $500 - $1000. $200 is the largest deposit I have ever made on a car. Usually, I am able to leave just $50. In this case, however, they wouldn't take $50 and I had to negotiate up to $200.

From what I know, Honda doesn't build to order. Dealers are randomly dealt cars. They have no choice but to pull from existing stock. For those who "ordered," chances are the dealer is waiting to pull one from a local dealer or waiting to receive one themselves. Problem is most other dealers have theirs pre-sold as well.

My undestanding is that dealers can 'request' specific colors/models, but no guarantees. How likely the request is to be accepted is somewhat dependent on the size of the dealer. Dealers who sell more get a better chance at a choice. So, it's somewhere in beteeen 'randomly dealt cars' and ordering the model you want. My dealer (largest in a 4-state area around Ohio) got an order accepted about 2 weeks ago (purchase order signed June 6th), but no build date or VIN yet.

You put in $2000????? Usually $500 is their profit, thats why most dealers are demanding $500. Once their profits are covered, they just put you on a list and enjoy their earnings. The rest is history for them. But $2000 for nothing? They're probably celebrating!
