Damn i just tried to rep you Snap Fit and it is still saying i have to spread the wealth even though i repped ten people yesterday and a couple the day before since i have repped you last. This doesnt make any sense anymore. Its got to be either 15 or 20 between repping the same person again and also there has to be some kind of time thing on it aswell cause i remember reppin TOOL a long time ago and a couple months later without reppin anyone in between it let me rep him again.

Hmm.. A fractional rep. I guess that makes sense. I completely missed reading that one. So it is confirmed then that if someone with no rep power reps you you dont go up on your rep counter unless you receive a certain, possibly ten, no rep power reps. That brings things into more of a perspective then.

So I mostly tell the person that I am gunna rep them as a heads up or just so other ppl know that it was helpful.
but for us, especially in this thread (for good reasons....meaning appropriately, and for the people who are trying to figure this out especially) when/if we rep each other we should give a warning and when, so it is more accurate with regards to the tally.

Regarding this one, there is probably a time decay as well. Lets say the "spread number" is 20, if you give out 20 reps, then you can go back and rep again. But it probably drops by like 1 per day as well, so if you wait 15 days AND you rep 5 people, then you can rep the first person again. This is just an example, the decay rate could be 1 per week or month, there is not enough data to accurately guess at the decay number.

Hi Admin. Come help us figure this out please
|
I know that somewhere an admin knows how the rep system work, when they were setting up the forum, the board owner (FaceYogurt? not sure who the HMIC here is...) must have enabled these options. Couple of possible reasons why they might not be telling us what is going on...
1. They don't want us to know becuase the rep system has a history of being harmful to forums. Many people get so tied up in rep apparently that they do things counter-productive to board intrests to gain rep, such as spamming, attacking other board members, creating multiple accounts for the sole purpose of raising thier rep higher, etc.
2. Whoever originally set up the rep system here has since forgotten. There are a lot of options to configure when setting up a forum like this, and it has been quite a while since it has been set up. I would probably have forgotten what I had originally configured it for as well...
3. They have other stuff on thier plate. Managing a forum like this is a lot of work. Between arranging stuff with vendors, lining up advertisers, dealing with true issues on the board (trolls, spammers, negligent posters etc.). Our curiosity about a relatively minor aspect of the board functions probably isn't on the top of the to-do list.
4. A combination of all of the above.

After 15 "spread the wealth" reps, I was able to rep Snap Fit for the second time, I believe our "spread the wealth" number is 15.

well I just found out the hard way that neg reps show up on ppls CP...
I have the horrible PM to prove it
Well mistakes and misunderstandings do happen....bummer....
but I still think I should +rep and -rep far more often as I have witnessed many, many wonderful, usefull, helpful things, and a bit of some unsavory inapropriate stuff as well (surprisingly low on this site though....YAY! )
This is the only forum that I am a part of, (or any online community for that matter other than email) because its so pleasant....so thanks peeps
oh I a have no doubt that Admin has better things to do....plus it only adds to the investigations and mystery....ooooooo...*cue old sci-fi music*
thanks for your continued input FractalJackal, it has been very helpful.
thanks btw re: rep pt. ...I will promise to continue earning it

Update listing of Rep settings
· Enable User Reputation system - Yes, enabled.
· Default Reputation - 0 or possibly .1 if fractional rep exists, but it is small.
Number of Reputation Levels to Display - 1 message displayed.
· Administrator's Reputation Power - Probably adds to rep power.
· Register Date Factor - Probably adds to rep power.
· Post Count Factor - +1 rep (and thereby rep power) after 1000 posts
· Reputation Point Factor - Probably adds to rep power
· Minimum Post Count - No minimum post count.
· Minimum Reputation Count - No minimum rep count, except possibly -rep.
· Daily Reputation Clicks Limit - 10 reps maximum per day.
· Reputation User Spread - 15 reps required between users
To deduce any more about the rep power system we would need volunteers who have two of the following three factors the same, and the last one different: Join date, Post Count, Reputation. If two members both have the same join date, and reputation, but different post counts, then they rep someone, we will be able to determine if post counts affect rep power. Until we get volunteers that match those criteria, or an admin who can/will explain the settings, I think we have figured out pretty much the most we can.

I don't know what I did but I already have 10 points and +2 rep.
I guess you just try to be helpful and respectful and good things will come your way.
Nice little system and this is the first forum I go to that uses it.

8thcivic.com uses the same forum setup. There have some ridiculous rep point sayings. Such as "XXXX is teh bbq king" if you have an unholy amount of rep. Or "XXXX does burnouts in neutral" or "XXXX wheelies his car in reverse" and so on. It's nuts.

I have repped 16 people in the last few days. Snap Fit was first and there was 15 others in between and i still cant rep him again yet. It has been 3 or 4 days since i first tried to rep him. In other words for me to re rep someone it takes more then 15 unless i have miscounted somewhere along the way.
Thanks Sid6.7 for the Rep. That takes me to 5 visible rep counts.
