ef civic hb our new Honda @117k

This is a 1st ride for our oldest it's a 700.00 farmer's field find. We are replacing the head gasket, belt, tensioner, water pump, plugs, wires, cap & gasket. A drop w/ coilovers (they are a lot less$ for EF than our Fit's). A good detailing and some seats, this is a real weak spot for these HB's, but they are 23 years old. lol. It's straight no rust and no evidents of a wreck.
Here she is:

Because it's been cold and wet out me & Rachel reupholstered the P.S. door. It had like camel hair about a 3/16" of fuzz from the factory. We didn't know the indention was there till we removed this stuff. We got 1.25 yd. of ostrich pleather haha 3.15 w/tax. Painted the faded window defrost vent w/ brown Hammered paint, real close to the plastic bottom of the dr. pannel.
here's a few pix:

A set of knock-off Rotas (can it get anymore knock-off than that?) were in the hatch I wet sanded w/2500 and polished w/ Mothers. There's a huge difference from what they did look like.
Here's the results:

You sure those are Rotas? I assume you believe they are replica SW388/Rega Evos, however I don't believe they are that, they look like some generic/American Racing wheels?

Also, what coilovers are you looking into for the car? EF's are very light cars, and will react very negatively to bad coilovers. If I were you, I'd get Koni Yellows and Ground Control Sleeves with their standard spring rates.

Also, is the car and 88 or an 89-91? Its crucial for your suspension ordering process, 88's use a eye style rear lower control arm and require a different damper, whereas the 89-91 uses basically the same LCA as any other Civic from 89-95 or Integra from 94-01.

You're going to want to replace all the bushings on the car too, I recommend Suja1 Hard Rubber bushes.

Thanks for the detailed info Cody. It's an 88 so I will be sure to check b4 ordering. It is so far up in the air now it looks funny. Needs to drop down alittle maybe 1.5"-2". Ya I was talking to B about the rims & what he thought. The rims have the manf. name ground out!? Strange I know but thats what we got, they cleaned up well. 13"/ 55mm generics. w/ 185/70r/13 which will be replaced w/ new rubber.

Perrenoud, I have another piece of advice!

You mention wanting seats, I recommend the OEM seats from the 89-91 Civic Si.

I can't remember for sure if they were made by Recaro, but they're nicely bolstered and VERY comfortable.

Sent an e-mail to him. Thanks Cody these would be great replacements. The site kijiji is kinda an ebay/craig's list.

Look'n for suspension parts and found 4 KYB gas shocks and a spring/ camber set
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

It's for my Rachel her 1st ride. Which if it turns out like we're planning it will be a cool 1st car. I remember mine a 70' TR6 fondly.

As it gets torn down & back together. Today the exhaust and intake manifolds came off to get a good start on removing the head. I will deck it .0015 to true it up & raise the comp. ratio. Old muscle car trick that & port match everything. headers/ exhaust and we were ready to go race'n, wayyy back in the day!

Glad you like the seats! I'm going to warn you, I don't recommend that suspension at all.

The LCA's will have very poor bushings that will perish quickly.
Camber kits are not necessary.
The spring rates on the springs will not work well with the KYB GR2's which are essentially an OEM replacement damper.

This is a bit more but a huuuuuuge improvement:

Progress CS2 Coilover System 88-91 Civic/CRX | Showstoppers

That's just some quick googling though, I'm sure something less expensive could be found on the used market.

a easy way to get around the suspension mess in the 88 is to just get some 89+ civic or crx rear Lower control arms. I miss my EF. Also if your going to be swapping seats the 88-89 are different than the 90-91. If you can get a hold of some 88-89 SiR seats they are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than the Si seats. The Si seats are made from horrible material. The SiR seats are tweed.

I didn't mind the seats in the Si, just seems like you have to be careful to take care of them.

And the KYB with lowering springs ought to be alright.

True on all other accounts.
