I think the fit might have a worthy adversary coming up in 2008. Scion is coming out with the xD next year. Looks kinda cool. I can't wait to see the specs and tests. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../08xdindex.gif

Overall length is up by only a half inch, but the new hatchback's wheelbase is 3.6 inches longer. It's also 1.2 inches wider from shoulder to shoulder, which suggests an increase in track as well. For power, the Scion xD gets the Toyota Corolla's 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder, good for 128 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. Both a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic transmission will be available to send it all to the front wheels. Compared to the pokey xA, which had a 103-hp 1.5-liter, the xD should be downright speedy for a subcompact. Suspension bits are still relatively mundane, with struts in front and a torsion beam in back. Wheel size is up to 16 inches and they're wrapped in slightly wider 195/60 rubber. Braking hardware consists of ventilated front discs and rear drums. Inside, the gauge pack has been relocated from the center of the dash to the proper location right in front of the driver. There's also a larger selection of storage slots, which is a good thing because the six-speaker Pioneer audio system now has both a generic MP3 player input jack and a dedicated iPod port. In back, the rear seats offer 6 inches of fore-and-aft adjustment, 10 degrees of recline and true fold-flat capability. As this is a Scion, the standard equipment list is impressive. In addition to the Pioneer setup, every xD comes with ABS, front-seat side airbags, full-length head curtain airbags, air-conditioning and full power accessories.
thats even more hideous than i thaught it would be...however the new xb looks pretty sick in person the pictures make it look like crap but i saw a real one yesterday and it looked nice however they ruined themselfs by putting in that 160 hp engine so it gets the milage of an s2000 now lol

My first new car-No longer all smashed up (just scraped and dinged and dented!)
2007 VBP Sport 5AT! WOO!! Finally got 40+ mpg!
i think it looks worse personally.
looks suv'ish, and not as revolutionary as the xB or xA. If it weren't for the crappy ride in the scions, i was considering one of the two simply because they're different and come with good features.
This one seems to be ... not so much.
Plus , I don't understand scion's 'new' thing with taking that rear quarter window out. It looks odd and seems like it would leave more of a blind spot.
It looks like they designed it from the bottom up. The bottom half of the car looks like it has potential, then you cross into the top half and it looks like the designers just gave up.
Just for kicks, I looked at one in the lot. Sticker says 22-28 mpg. I guess getting a bigger engine with more rooms makes it more competitive with the Element. For the longest time there weren't that many small hatches or wagons. Toyota now has more hatches and wagons than ever. Only problem is that I don't really like any of 'em. Haven't seen the Scion XA's replacement yet but I figure I wont like it either. I guess they have all the hatch / wagon market covered....I just don't like them that much.
Yeah, this is a Honda Fit forum, but you all should welcome this news. The xD should hit showrooms first week of August, and should take some heat off the Fit. This should make negotiating the price on a Fit a little easier since the xD is about $600 less than the Fit Sport manual trans.
6232-Model code(auto) w/ 4AT w/ ECTi is $15,970
6233-Model code(5MT) $15,170
thats with scions $620 delivery processing and handling fee included in the MSRP
