Honda Fit vs. Nissan Versa

Hi, everyone...just bought a black Fit Sport and love it, and that's coming down from a Jeep Commander, no less!! But I have run into some Nissan Fan boys who claim the Versa is a better car, better looking, more goodies, and has just the same resale as a Honda...according the reviews I read when I did my research, this was not the case, as the Fit was at the top of most best car lists in its category this year. What do you think. Does the Versa come even close to the Fit?
Thanks, Tony...

i am the guy you want to talk to about this. i lost my 07 TW fit last month, and got an '07 versa sedan.

so far i have noticed a lot that is better in the versa, but the fit has more goodies and much better interior and exerior styling. the fit grips the road better on winding roads, but lacks that 'oohmf' on the highway. even when i had the skunk2 exhaust and fujita intake on the fit, i still lacked that power on the highway. but in the city, you get the acceleration, gas mileage, handling, and of course you look hella more awesome in the fit.

but i am a big traveler, as you all know, so i do a lot of highway miles, and the versa has made me pretty happy with it's handling at high speed. and it provides the extra acceleration at those speeds that the fit has to go into high rpm's to acheive.

i would have to say the fit wins, even though it's a tough call, but the interior styling of the fit is what brought it ahead of the versa.

please forgive me if i made no sense, for i just woke up, i'll keep my eye on this thread though to reply again. holla atcha boy

I'll have to agree with Ritz. The Fit and Versa are very similar with a few things going the Fit's way and a few things going the Versa's way. Though I don't own a Versa, I did take a couple test drives in them. In the end I chose the Fit because it looked better to me. But it was close.

i told lunarGD3 and sOx that the versa handles like a focus. very lights, and loses the grip. i'm surprised that most of the comparisons out there for the fit don't include the versa. so many small things are similar. ie: the small little windows and random imperfections also found in the versa.... this is what i have to say to the new car designers, "Hey guys! What do I have to do to get a gosh darn armrest these days?!?!". so i guess what i'm trying to say what it comes down to with the fit and versa is that the fit wins in the general cool factor, and has better grip to the road, a better city car. but the versa is a better high speed control vehicle, but has that 'slip' factor when it comes to city driving, similar to a focus.... i compare to a focus since we've all had a girlfriend at one point that drove one of those stupid cars.

and for the record, i have the sedan. i feel that the hatch versa is one of the ugliest things i've ever seen. but if ya'll want to know, i'm still modding the versa, last night i did the cupholder lighting LED mod, and next is the VIP lighting when i find the fuse for it.

I've heard somewhere that the Versa's handling was weak, unlike the fit. The only real thing the Versa has on the Fit is that the Versa just has more HP & Acceleration. Fits basically owns everything else, interior, comfort, handling, looks better more MPG, and more fun to mod. I remember messing around with the hatch on a Versa at the LA car show, they didn't even have the hydralics on the trunk to prevent slamming the door down. So the door really slams down unlike the Fit's hatch which falls down and closes smoothly. Little things like that do sometimes get annoying in the long run. That's why I'd prefer the fit over the Versa.

I think comfort is debatable between both cars. I have heard a lot of people describe the Versa as feeling like a bigger car and driving more like a civic/sentra/mazda3 than a micro car.

This is what gives it better highway stability. It is also quite a bit bigger than the Fit and offers more "features" for the same price.

With that said the Fit has a much much better looking interior, more versatility with the magic seats, better mpg at the cost of a little acceleration and overall looks better in my opinion.

I am comparing a Fit Sport to a Versa hatch SL as I don't believe the Versa sedan is a direct match to the Fit.

this is true, but you know what, we have a dead pedal :p . i think the versa is a little bit more comfortable than the fit. and the fit is 'easier' to mod, with more options, but the versa is more 'challenging' to mod, which makes it more fun for me. haha, anyways, i wouldn't say the versa's handling is that bad, just in the city, i think that some different size rims and better tires would help out a bundle. i may consider playing with the tire pressure to see what psi is optimum to bring the handling up a bit.

as for you who test drove the fit and versa, i'm sure we all agree the fit seemed a lot better at the time, and we ended up getting the fit over the versa. but like you said about the hatch in the versa getting annoying in the long run, the fit as well has a few of those imperfections as well. the highway control in the fit got annoying to me in the long run. but the car gods decided i was only 'fit' to drive a versa now. and as for the handling on the highway, at least i have that in the versa.

for you socal people, don't ride highway 74 in a versa the day after you get it! haha, scary stuff.

I took a spin in the Versa when I was looking to replace my previous car.

I liked the power and acceleration compared to the Fit. There is a bit more space in terms of width, and the SL does come with some slick features like Bluetooth.

However, the interior of the Versa I found was a bit disappointing. The organization, materials, etc. were much better in the Fit. Also, the Magic Seats is a big plus as the Fit can haul a lot of larger items that other cars in this segment cannot. The dead pedal was never an issue for me, it never really bugged me so I never really noticed.

Exterior I like the Fit more, but this is a personal preference. I found the Nissan to be awkward and not as sporty looking. To me, the Versa looks more like a family car than a fun car.

Handling is much better in the Fit. The Versa can hold its own, but the Fit can drive the wheels off of any of its competitors.

It comes down to what you are looking for. If I was going to get a Versa, I'd probably get a SL w/ Tech Package and AT since it is more of a relaxed cruising car IMO. The Fit is much more fun to drive. It is great with a MT regardless of which trim level you get. It's kind of like the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C Class (Although the new one is really really nice and fun to drive!) for the micro car industry. The Versa is more like the old W203 C Class in that it has more tech oriented amenities while the Fit is more like a 3 Series because it is much more fun to drive and it handles really well.

i agree with 'fit god illusive'. i have the S model, i don't really need any fancy bluetooth or shenanigans like that. the interior in the versa is very very dissapointing, my next mod will probably making the guage cluster blue like the fit, instead of an orange-ish amber color (or colour as illusive would say). i think the versa hatch exterior is similar to the quest, from even close distances, i get the versa confused as being a quest. as for a fit, it somewhat has that jr. minivan look to it, but in a 'lil cute' way. i miss the fit in everyway, shape and form, but the only thing that's a plus in the versa so far is definitely the highway control. but i will definitely do what i can to make the versa a 10, you'll still me on fit freak, bringing your crazy DIY's into the versa

Ok since he wants are opinions im going to give you my honest opinion. No offense ritz man, your car will be modded and somewhat cool soon enough.

I think the Versa is the UGLIEST car(excluding the US made cars) of 2008. Its lines just dont flow right. It looks like a Fit rip off and they failed miserably. The Hatch is the worst, it looks like a early 90's clown car. Interior is horrible aswell, i flet like i was in a ealry 90's car when inside it. As far as how it drives, i couldnt tell ya i never drove one but pretty mucheveryone who compares the two say the Fit comes out way ahead of the Versa as far as fun to drive factor. I honestly have no idea what Nissan was thinking with that thing. They have great designs-Altima, 350Z, Maxima, Murano, Rogue. All GREAT looking high quality cars but they just blew it with the Versa and i think sales numbers are showing them that.
One last thing-If i had a choice bettween a 89 CRX with 250,000 miles or a new Versa fully loaded id take the CRX in a heart beat lol.

I agree, if you do a lot of highway driving, the Versa is much better as it is much more stable. It really depends on what you want :) Versa people will rave about how theirs is better, Fit people will do the same for their cars. It's all about what you want and what you need. You can't win them all over :p

BTW, Canadian spelling with 'u's FTW!! :D

i will make the versa cool, but i will not be able to bring in that fun factor that the fit has. i wouldn't quite say the versa is completely a fit rip off, in some ways yes, but i would say it's closer to a matrix or so. i never said the versa was a pretty car lol, but i've got the sedan, so i'm not much of an eyesore.

and you've all seen the stuff i did to my fit i've posted before, and i feel i have more options in the versa for "my style" of modding and especially customizing. sometime soon i'll be blacking out the badges, similar to how i did the the fit badge before. i saw a new grand prix, and noticed the orange fogs.... as of now, the versa has housing for it, but no fog lights.... looks like i'm going to call pontiac and get a price on those. but like i said, the versa will be made cool, but there's nothing i can do to make it as fun as the fit. i think our boy tony up top made the right choice with the fit.

Do they have a decent aftermarket for the versa i never took a look. Springs, rims, exhaust, intake all that stuff?

i've seen a few places that have all that stuff, a bit pricey, but not really my type of mods these days. i'll be doing the rims pretty soon, most likely not for the exhaust or intake. it was nice to have in the fit, but when i brought it back down to stock, i relized how much i missed the quite, and missed the quality of my sound system. i'm a sound proofing kinda guy.;)

versa is just ugly, the round curves with the extra long body. not my type of deal.

not to get off topic but its like the yaris, they both are just ugly shaped cars. theres really no good lines of the bodies on those cars. the yaris looks like a platypus and the versa i don't know what that looks like. heh

the only reason why anyone should pick those is the extra power they receive. but i wouldn't compensate power for looks.
