I haven't yet bought a Fit and I'm considering a few models and I'm not sure when I'll be able to buy but definately within the next 15 months.
But it's mostly down to the Fit or xD. The xD is actually the closest and most obvious competitor to the Fit so I'm not sure why that fact doesn't get much attention. Why do people compare "Fit vs. Yaris" so often when they are not even the same body style or price point? The Fit and xD are almost identical in size, price, ect. and are both 5 door hatches.
It's the hardest choice I've ever been faced with!
They both offer their own advantages and even though similar, they're so different.
Here's the only publication that has put each head to head... :popc:
I was cross-shopping the Fit and the xD also. After doing a lot of research and test driving both, I went with the Fit.
The only advantage the Scion has really was power. It's got substantially more torque and get-up and go and its quite noticeable. However it didn't make up for the uncomfortably high seating position, squishy handling, numb steering and gigantic c-pillar blind spot wide enough to hide a 3 trailer semi. Overall the Honda seems to be much more well thought out, the cargo area is much more useful and it's much much more fun to drive, despite the difference in power.
I'd say the xD might be a good choice for someone who is going to buy an automatic anyway and/or cares more about acceleration than handling and probably won't use the massive cargo space of the Fit.

It still doesn't make my decision any easier though.
That's an interesting review article.
I considered the Scion xD before choosing a Fit. In my opinion the Fit is a lot better looking. Something about the Scion's shallower side windows makes it look like a tank or armored vehicle. And I really liked the Fit's versatile interior space. I use ours to fetch big bags of horse feed and shavings; the Fit easily hauled my son back from college plus all of his luggage and gear. Maybe the Scion could do the same, maybe not.
In general, though, the specs are pretty similar between the two. I think you should go with the car that looks better to you personally -- the one that you'll enjoy looking at when you walk up to it on the street, or when you hand wash it. In the end, to each his own.
Luckily, I went with the Fit myself also. Never much cared for the XD.

I have considered also the scion xD when I was shopping for a car for my daily commute. I have finally decided on the Fit. It handles better than the xD and looks better in my opinion. Another plus is that there are a lot more aftermarket parts that you can buy for it. No regrets with my purchase
I test-drove both the Fit (Sport with AT) and the xD. The xD feels a little sportier, due to it's power and torque advantage. I liked the seats better than the Fit, and handling was acceptable. The Scion is a small car though, and it never lets you forget it. Headroom is tight and overall cargo space is pretty small, even in this class of car. I test drove both and chose the Fit, because the Fit has more space and a better ride/handling mixture.
Bottom line comes down to what you value most. If you don't feel the xD is too tight, want the extra power, and you are OK with the styling, you might prefer the xD. If you want more flexibility and better handling, you will probably prefer the Fit.
