Silicone Coolant Hoses

Why would I want to pay a premium for the silicone coolant hoses made by
Samco, SFS Performance, etc.? Are they really worth the extra money in terms
of longevity? I'd be interested in hearing the group's opinions and
experiences with these types of hoses. Thanks.

I was told a long time ago by a Honda dealer that Honda coolant is very
easy on the hoses. My 2 Integras lasted 209,000 miles between the two
of them with only one upper radiator hose change (it got soft).

So why bother with silicone even if it is "better"?

Save your money. Unless you like the cool colors.

If your car is regularly raced (and I mean competitive TRACK racing),
silicone hoses may buy you better reliability under stress. Otherwise, OEM
and selected aftermarket are fine. OEM hoses last seven years or so.
