If you go to
www.nissannews.com, Nissan has officially announced their new sub-Sentra car for the USA/Canada market, to be named
Versa.
This is effectively the NA version of the Nissan Tiida that has become a success in Japan's own market; the US/Canada version will use a 1.8-liter engine rated at 120 bhp (SAE 08/04 net) and will offer a CVT automatic as an option.
It appears that Nissan
has taken the threat of the Honda Fit seriously and will expand their main Mexican assembly to build the Versa to compete against the Fit. Also, Nissan chose the Tiida design probably because they will build a three-door hatchback sports car very similar to the Sport Concept unveiled at the New York Auto Show several months ago, which is based heavily on Versa mechanicals.
