Could this be the official, true-life image of the new Porsche Panamera? Yes, according to Dutch publication AutoTelegraaf. A Monday embargo on the images and possibly details has supposedly been broken by Auto Motor und Sport and more details should be available this Sunday night.
Panamera is a four-door coupe from Porsche that is aimed to compete with the likes of Mercedes-Benz CLS, the upcoming Audi A7 2+2, BMW CS concept-based 2+2 coupe and Aston Martin Rapide. It's a hefty customer this Panamera, measuring 16.3ft (4.97 metres) long, 6.3ft (1.9m) wide and 4.66ft (1.4m) tall. The wheelbase is quantified at 9.6ft (2.9m). Curb mass approaches two tonnes.
As a package it will feature the most advanced and passenger-car focused technologies, such as an electronic air suspension, PDK gearbox, an LSD for good traction, and current interior comforts. The Porsche Panamera is obviously a Porsche, which means no sparing of thought when it comes to engine power.
Initially the two variants available will be an S model and a Turbo, the former kicking out 400bhp (300kW) from its 4.8-litre V8 and the Turbo launching upwards of 500bhp (373kW), thanks to a twin-turbo system running through its gut. V6 petrol power should join the two later, packing around 300bhp (223kW), while hybrid power comes at a later stage. If Porsche terminology is anything to go by we can also expect Turbo S models too worth over 600bhp (447kW). Although diesels have been ruled out, there cannot be 100 percent certainty on the issue; Porsche did once say the Cayenne would not offer diesel as an option. Today it's a different story.
An estimated 20,000 units are planned for sale at the start, with production going on to 50,000 per year depending on demand. Sales of Panamera begin in the US, Europe and Asia in 2009.

Not as hideous as some of the early test mules, but still pretty danged ugly. The mesh wheels help it out a little, but it really looks like a C4S that somebody turned into a limo, badly... Whats truly depressing is the realization that will sell every last one they make to people who couldn't care less what its probably capable of.

Porsche has released the first batch of official images of the interior of the new Panamera. Unlike the hump-backed exterior, the inside is much easier on the eyes and features what may be the first actual usable rear seats ever in a Porsche car (not counting the Cayenne). The images released today show off a two-tone color scheme with a center console featuring an array of switches very reminiscent of one of Nokia's high end-Vertu phones. The steering wheel has thumb switches (like those of the 911) allowing the driver to manually select the ratio of the seven-speed PDK dual clutch gearbox. A large navigation screen dominates the center of the instrument panel while two more are available to entertain the backseat passengers. Backseat accommodations appear to be just as capable as those up front, if less adjustable.
The Panamera goes on sale in Germany on September 12, with a six-speed manual, 4.8-liter S model starting at €102,251 including VAT (around $130k USD). However, we'll be able to get the Panamera here in the U.S. a month later starting at a much more palatable $89,800 for the rear drive 4.8 S. An extra four grand will add hardware to drive the front wheels as well. From there, the price escalates quickly as you add options. At launch, only normally aspirated and turbocharged V8s will be available. Sometime in 2010-11, a V6 hybrid should arrive, and possibly a diesel as well.

This individual seating allows for optimum passive safety.
Porsche will provide countless opportunities for individual interior customization with 13 color and material combinations including four two-tone leather interiors and seven interior trim options including carbon fiber to Natural Olive wood.
An available four-zone climate control system gives each seating area individual control of functions such as temperature, air distribution and venting direction. In the unfortunate event of an accident, front, side and curtain airbags help protect the front occupants, while standard rear side airbags help protect those in back. The Panamera S and Panamera 4S feature eight-way power seats in front with a driver memory package. In the rear are two individual seats with a folding rear console and plenty of room. The Panamera Turbo has power seats with a memory package for not only the seat functions but also the electronically adjustable steering wheel. Further seating customization is available through optional alternatives such as 18-way Adaptive Sport Seats or fully adjustable eight-way power seats in the rear.
Porsche for the first time will offer from Burmester® -- the renown Berlin audio manufacturer -- a new ultra high-end surround sound system. With 16 loudspeakers plus a subwoofer (a total of over 2.5 square feet of speaker surface area) and a total output of more than 1000 watts, this new system gives listeners a grand acoustical experience. And like the 2009 Porsche sports cars and SUVs, Panameras will be available with the latest personal electronic connectivity features, including Bluetooth for cellular telephones, Universal Audio Interface for connecting personal audio devices, and satellite radio.
The rear luggage area provides up to 15.7 cubic feet of space, enough room for four large suitcases. The tall space enables luggage to be loaded in an upright position, and with the rear seat folded down the luggage space generously increases up to 44.6 cubic feet.
Initially, all Panameras will be available with two V8 engine options, standard seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) double-clutch transmissions and rear- or all-wheel drive. All engines feature Porsche Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) for highest efficiency. For additional fuel savings, all Panameras include an engine stop-start function that can turn off and restart the engine at certain times, like when stopped at an intersection or in traffic.
The rear-wheel drive Panamera S has a 400-horsepower, 4.8-liter V8 engine that can propel the it from 0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds on its way to a top test track speed of 175 mph. The manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) is $89,800. The all-wheel drive Panamera 4S receives the same 4.8-liter powerplant. It sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, achieves a top test track speed of 175 mph, and has an MSRP of $93,800.
At the top of the Panamera lineup is the Panamera Turbo with its 500-horsepower, twin-turbocharged 4.8-liter V8. Meh.
Nice pics. But then I am a greedy and selfish person when it comes to car design. I don't think sports cars should have 4-doors and a back seat. It's a sports car! Its not supposed to be practical. Want a ride? Wait your turn. Part of the reason why I think the Cayenne is a waste of metal. Sooo we need this SUV to have this much hp for what? So the soccer mom down the street can roll it or lose control just that much faster? But I am in the minority as lots of folks ooo and ahh about that car so what do I know.
